Anyone carry a knife while running?

I carry yojimbo2 inside pocket of jogging trousers. Not very fast to access, but it's there. I jog with my 6 year old son, who outruns me in account of me being fat, but we do it in a public park near home, full of pothead youngsters or worst. So the yojimbo2 tags along.

I just posted this in another (semi-related) forum... here goes again (my top three running knives), with a few more details.

Benchmade 530. Fantastic, under-two ounce blade. You can carry it on or in running shorts, bike jersey pockets or even dress pants and you will forget it’s there. (Not for heavy use, in my book. I carry it when running/biking or when I want a knife to disappear in my pocket, but not when I'm doing work around the house, for example.) It's so thin, I just clip it inside the top/back side of my running shorts and never notice it.

SOG Aegis. I love the blade shape … it’s a lot of knife for just 3 ounces. (I’ll confess it’s the only SOG that ever caught my attention… it did arrive with some blade play, too.) It's bulky enough that I can notice it a little when wearing running shorts, but not a pain.

Spyderco Delica 4. I grab this is if I’m leaving town, & only want to bring one blade (for daily use and running/biking). Super useful when off the bike, too! It's not noticeable when clipped on running shorts, but it's a noticeably shorter blade than the two mentioned above.

When I went walking/running I carried a Sog Flash II or a Spyderco Stretch inside the waistband of my shorts just because they are so darn might and wouldn't pull them down.

I will carry a light knife clipped to the inside of my wasteband so it doesn't bounce around. Some of most frequent ones are a delica or a small sebenza.

I carry a Benchmade Bedlam. Glass breaker is great less lethal for bums etc. and the long blade can do a number on not so friendly "others".

Though I don't run/jog very often, once I carried a Large Carbon Fiber Sebenza and I remember getting back being all sweaty and what not and when I took off my shirt I realized "Wow, did I just carry a Large Sebenza to run with?" lol If you clip it between your undies and the waistband of shorts/pants on the side hip, it is hardly noticeable. Even lighter and more ideal would be the CF Small Sebenza.

Yup. BK11 or BK14 w/neck lanyard & elastic shock cord around the chest, so it does not bounce. Easy peasy.

If I do rock a knife I have a gerber evo jr clipped inside my waistband. If I were to start doing some long trail runs I clip it inside my blackhawk molle webbing, and have a couple things on there holding water and other junk. I look funny doing it but I never found a comfy backpack to run with even those designed for it and this thing has been used comfortably while airsofting in which I run around like a madman.

Lately, I run with a Kershaw Skyline clipped to pocket, but I used to sport the
Spyderco Delica 4.

When I run with lighter running shorts- sans pockets, I tried the knife clipped to
the hip both in and out, but after about a 1-1/2hrs of running, this caused
chafing.

So if I pack a knife with pocket-less shorts I'll clip it to an Amphipod small rapid
access pouch that clips to my shorts or clip it a running belt that has elastic
holders for gels.

If I'm planning to run for more than 1-1/2hrs and/or there is no accessible water
in my route; I'll pack the running belt to hold my gels, an 8oz snap flask and clip
the Skyline into one of the elastic gel holders.

I prefer to be as relaxed as possible on my runs, don't want to be gripping onto
anything with my hands.

On the side note, I'm all for inclement weather running, it's invigorating the first
five miles, but hit mile 18, fully soaked, cramping in both legs up to the hips, with
temp below 35, and going into a headwind of 20mi/hr plus- not so fun to say the
least.

As for MTB, any of the edc rotation that clips to the front harness of my water
pack and maybe my F1 in the pack's front pocket.

Here's a quick pic with my favorite gel- #9.

I take a short fixed blade (3" blade) when I bike, since you never know when you need one. My trips often take me on country roads miles from home. Ive never run into a situation where I couldnt have gotten on without it, but I would rather have it in case I do. Its useful for tire changes, cutting the old one out as it tends to wrap around the axle if it comes off the wheel when it pops. It rides in the pocket of my camelbak so it doesnt unsheath in my pocket or fall out along the way.
