Anyone else buy band-aides since they started collecting knifes?

So the consensus is accidents happen and use what you have on hand or used to using. A band aid works but technology has advanced. A little stop bleed powder, then cleaning with your choice followed by sealing it up with super glue or liquid bandage. Hell put a bandaid and jb weld if your finger falls off it will be ok. Can t forget band aid sutures.

Just stick the bleeding part up against a hot exhaust manifold. Or header, it that's how you roll. In the kitchen, an electric stove will do nicely(altho glass stove tops take longer to reach welding temperature). Cauterize it right quick, the doctor will thank you later. Ya might want a sip or two of sumthin strong when they go to stripping off the dead stuff, tho...

Bladeforums member Sonnydaze was kind enough to send me a RAT 2 about a month ago in his 10,000 post give-away. I promptly honed the factory edge on it to razor sharp...then I did some stupid prying with the blade, it slipped and sliced my left index finger nice and deep. Took a good 25 minutes to stop the bleeding. No tendons cut however and I fixed it right up with liquid bandage, which held up fine and it healed cleanly.

The blade wasn't damaged either, so no harm no foul...but next time I'll remember to grab a screwdriver.

Let me reply to this. Since I got back into knives, I have cut myself about once a week. Stupid, clumsy SoB. But I tell you what, I know how to treat the wound properly, at least!

1. Get a bottle of hydrogen peroxide (HyPer) from the pharmacy, and some Q-tips
2. Get a tube of bacytracin or other triple antibiotic ointment
3. Get some good band-aids

When you cut yourself, first thing is to stop the bleeding. Hold the hand above the head and apply pressure for awhile.

Once it slows down, band-aid it tightly until it stops bleeding.

Then, dip a Q-tip in the HyPer. get ready for the pain and swab the cut. The sizzle means it's killing germs, you dirty SoB. Then, put a tiny amount of bacitracin on the cut, and band-aid it again.

Clean that cut twice a day with HyPer. Don't wash your hands. Use the other hand to wipe yourself. You can use the hand santizer, if you have some around.

If you do this ^ it will heal twice as quickly, and with less pain than if you hadn't kept it properly clean.

There's no excuse to have an infected cut in this day and age.
^ This has my vote to become a sticky^ Lol

Keep a shooter of vodka in the medkit. One for me one for cut. Mmm ima go cut my finger right now.

Not only am I getting regular supply of band aids, but also getting my tetanus shot every 3 months or so.

Way too often on your tetanus shot. Once every ten years is the norm.

Your comment made me think about the time I had some troops come in for updating their shots. One pilot said he was exempt because of his flight status. Somehow he had managed to avoid getting his shots for eighteen years. Not really sure how he had done that. When questioned about his next scheduled flight, he replied that it wasn't till the following Wed.. That was four days away. He was not happy when I reached for a syringe and told him to roll up his sleeve.

I have a box of Band-Aids in my medicine cabinet right now that were hand me downs from the early 80s, Mom gave them to me when I left home to go off to college, I'm 49 now. So you can see I haven't had the occasion to use them much though I have been into knives since age 6. I have used more of them in the last year since I took an interest in Buck knives than any time before then. Something in a Buck 110 that doesn't like me. At one point I had 2 cuts on the top of my fingers on one hand and one on the side of my index finger on the other hand. Buck and I seem to have some weird chemistry.
