Anyone else dislike pocket clips?

I always carry my knives clipped, I've had more bad experience with stuff falling out of my pockets (kakis) when it's loose in the pocket. When the clip has proper tension I feel it's more secure, and easier to access then if it were floating around my pocket. Like I said before, sometimes I feel they make it a bit more uncomfortable in the hand but I feel it is a trade off for the convenience.

I love clips; have found very few that were not comfortable in my hand while using the knife.
I really like the spydie wire-clips also.

For my part, I wouldn't be caught dead with a knife clipped to my pocket. YMMV.

I OTOH won't carry a knife WITHOUT one, other than something like an SAK on a keychain.

I've been here for years too, and pocket clip horror stories are actually quite rare, especially considering the number of posters and the amount of traffic these forums get. Not sure why that "convinces" you the clips serve the needs of the manufacturer more than the consumer(cause, you know, it's in the manufacturers interest to do extra effort that they wouldn't otherwise have to do, like making/buying the clips, drilling holes for them, etc), but oh well.

I have usually used a clip. I would keep it in my pocket and not use a clip more but when its in my pocket my knife seems to alsways rotate to its side so its a little uncomfortable and you can see it bulging. any solutions?

I had most pocket clips but I find them as a necessary evil. I just dont understand why all clips seem to suck these days. It seems the better they look the less functional they are.

I think you should carry however you want, whatever is most comfortable to you...I don't care if someone might perceive it as a "weapon"...it's a pocket knife, period...people have been carrying a pocket knife for well over a hundred years, so carry on!

My guess is that most people who lose their knives buy new knives to replace them. But I could be wrong about that.

To me, a knife clip is a guaranteed method of generating additional sales. Whether the revenue generated from those sales is enough to offset the cost of putting clips on the knives is a question I can't answer. But if I were a manufacturer, all of my folders would have clips on them.

Not clipped, they haven't . . . or at least not that I'm aware of.

PS: See there, EChoil? I told you it was only a matter of time before the clipsters showed up. ;) :)

My guess is that most people, well, don't lose their knife. Cause jesus christ in a handbag, lord knows anytime anything ELSE about a knife fails, people post about it. "I was using a baseball bat to baton my trench dagger through a 20 year old knotted oak and it broke, I will never trust this knife company again!" and so on.

Just what the title says, I never really liked pocket clips. I find I scrape my hand if I try to reach around a knife with one so that the pocket is "dedicated" to the knife anyway. Also, they make the knife less comfortable in the hand.

Now, that's just me and YMMV.

I was just wondering I anyone else removed pocket clips. If so how do they end up carrying. And mostly I guess, if anyone else is anal enough to have to find some way to fill the holes left over if one is removed. I've ground the mounting screws a bit shorter and put them back in before.

I was never a fan, until I started to wear pants with deeper pockets.

Now I insist that I have a clip AND it is worn tip up and the clip is worn deeper in the pocket.

But that is not for all 3 blades I wear, just my large bladed lockback.

The SAK etc are not so worn.

On most knives I can live with them, on some knives I really love them. Although, a nice sheath beats out the pocket clip every single time for me.

True that. On the other hand, how often have you posted that you lost your car keys or your wallet on this or any other forum? I think there's a certain amount of shame that accompanies doing something harmful to yourself that others might perceive as less-than-intelligent . . . something you might not want to admit to on a public forum. Losing a knife because it came unclipped from your pants pocket might just fall into that category . . . at least it does for me practically every time I read about it.

I prefer the pocket clips, but I am presently carrying an inexpensive Buck with thumb studs, and they're very sharp. That I dislike.

Slippies

HOT pocketers
My wife tells me I resemble the latter. ;) :D But the older I get, the more I realize I'm tending toward the former. As Mr. Simon put it:

Slip slidin' away, slip slidin' away,
You know the nearer your destination the more you're slip slidin' away.

There is a secondary consideration, of course. Clipping a knife to my pocket sends a message I don't necessarily want to send . . . that I've got something in my pocket some folks might interpret as a weapon. I realize this isn't a consideration for everyone. But based on where I live and what I do for a living, it is for me.

I keep my knives clipped for that very reason. Carrying a concealed weapon is prohibited in Canada. I sometimes wish that wasn't the case as I have lost a Techno and Military clipped. I have made it a habit to feel for my knife every time I stand up now.
