Anyone else dislike pocket clips?

Just wondering for the people who use lanyards, are you ever concerned of knife theft? I mean, some of the people on this forum use 500 dollar knives as EDCs, and putting a lanyard on that and leaving it hanging is pretty much a pickpocket's dream.

You do realize a lanyard doesn't have to hang from one's pocket to effectively aid in withdrawal, right?

For me it's a simple decision. If I hold the knife and the clip is uncomfortable in my hand I remove the clip. If it's comfortable with the clip I leave it on.

So let me get this straight... your logic, instead of leaving it loosely hanging in your pocket, is to leave it loosely hanging in your pocket, but have a bunch of rope attached to it for absolutely no reason? I'm not even trying to start an argument here; that logic is just nonsense.

I prefer having a clip. Nowadays, especially with multiple items in pocket, not having to rummage through my pocket to dig out my knife is pretty convenient.

The lanyard assist in pulling the knife out of pocket. Putting some bead will assist in giving it some weight for us to identify the lanyard.

I work in an office environment, thus cannot clip to the pocket. Instead i clip it on my inner pocket inside my front pocket (kind of small pocket on jeans, only located deep inside the pocket) and the lanyard had helped various time in pulling the knife out.

And this is a typical BF thread. We are at page 5 and lines are being drawn.

Really, I was just wondering...

How people who did not use pocket clips carried.
If they removed them.
And primarily, what they did about the leftover holes if they did.

I have a couple I am removing the clip from and don't like the unsightly holes. I'd like to find some set screws to Loctite in to fill them.

So it turned into a poll in a way, and that's cool. It surprised me how many don't care for them. It took on a life of it's own and was still pretty interesting. Welcome to BladeForums.

Now then,
In matters of taste there can be no disputes or De gustibus non est disputandum

I put the screws back in sometimes... of course they are not flush, as you are probably wanting, but it works and doesn't bother me too much.

I will admit im a bit surprised how many people associate a pocket clip with being "armed". not trying to ruffle feathers, but we all know a knife is simply a tool, and a pocket clip makes that tool a bit handier when needed. just my .02

*add...maybe my response is due to the part of the country I live in. around here a knife on the belt (or in your pocket) is normal dress atire

I love pocket clips so I don't have to dig around in my pocket to find my knife. IMHO, the pocket clip and Spyderco hole are two of the greatest knife inventions of the 20th century.

Easy fix. Don't put anything but your knife in the pocket you carry your knife in and won't have to dig around to find it. ;) That technique also pretty much does away with having to attach a lanyard to your knife in order to find it. Just reach in the pocket you exclusively carry your knife in, grab the first thing you find and lo and behold, it will magically be your knife every single time. :D And the concept of a knife bouncing around inside my pocket is unfamiliar to me. Once my knives hit the bottom of my pocket, they pretty much stay put . . . unless I'm in orbit, that is.

I use a pocket clip for a few reasons. First, I believe I'm less likely to lose a clipped knife. Sure, I've had clips snag on things while walking (maybe twice in 4 or 5 years of carrying a knife daily), but never had one pulled out of pocket before. I HAVE had my wallet, phone, zippo, bic, etc slide out of my pocket while sitting though. I almost always catch it, but there have been plenty of times where I need to retrace my steps to wherever I was sitting last...and I'm normally really good about keeping my stuff in check. Second, depending on the size and shape of the knife and the size and shape of my pockets, unclipped knives can settle into awkward and uncomfortable positions in the pocket. I like the discretion aspect of carrying knives without a clip, but for comfort, loss prevention and peace of mind the clip wins out.
