Anyone else feeling "satiated"?

Yes and no.

If you think about something long enough you'll inevitably find areas where it could be improved. Nothing can ever be perfect. The trick is knowing when to stop overthinking things.

There's an old prayer that goes something like "grant me the strength to change the things I can, the courage to accept the things I can't, and the wisdom to know the difference".

My version of that prayer would be "grant me a smack across the face whenever my dumb *** gets the urge to buy more stuff I don't need".

You are referring to the Prayer of Serenity...

But the one you use is known as the Prayer of Dumbassery! 🤣

This thread really hit home for me. I was really much happier with just the one knife. Too much “ stuff” just gets in my way. It’s why I was relieved when I sold / gave away my 100 + Stockman collection.
I just now listed and sold my newly purchased FK2, will attempt to find a DEK2, will most likely sell my Eklipse the day it gets back from DLC. Leaves me with my Mnandi and Zaan. I’ll probably buy a spare of each ( it’s just who I am) and I’m done.

I’ll admit I own way too many knives. Some I don’t even pull out and look at anymore. Things used to be different. I was using most of them, especially the fixed blades, more frequently when I lived up in the Northeast and hunted, camped and fished regularly. Since retiring and moving to the deep South - metropolitan living hasn’t offered the same avenues of use. The good thing is after years of trying this and that I’ve come to realize that I’m a Spyderco guy. They just feel right and their prices, even though they’ve climbed up fairly quick recently, have always been in my sweet spot. At 55 I’m confident I could happily get by now with just my Manix 2 and Para 3.

I am totally satiated with knives and am proud to say I haven't bought...very many in weeks but they were bargains.

Something much worse has come up however. Last week I bought a bayonet....this week I have 4.

Its over for me.

I've been staying clear of the Axe, Tomahawk & Hatchet forum for the same reason. I know my limits.

I'm at a juxtaposition of there are very few new designs that interest me, and the ones that do are more than I am willing to spend. Only time I even look is if I get an email, and even then its maybe once every two weeks or so. I'm also out of room in my storage thingy, so if I want a new one, I have to sell one. Fortunately, I have two I plan to sell.

Yes, satiety in folding knives has been achieved. I don't buy fixed blades, I just make whatever I want. And for folders, I had a couple years of collecting, modding, and using (then subsequently giving away, trading, and selling), and have settled into three that do everything I want from a folding knife. A tenacious in S35VN, and two Resiliences in the same, all reground and modded to suit my preferences. I don't see them being unseated anytime soon.

A while ago I posted a thread where I no longer feel the urge to get any of the new knives since even those I already have are overkill.

Well, I mainly buy "older/vintage" knives. Nothing "new" that I've been interested in for some time. Although, I'll admit that I bought a Spyderco Swayback, MagnaCut Mule and a couple of CPKs recently which are pretty "new."

Nonethless, I'm on the "lookout" for knives mostly made in the 90's to early 2000's and some earlier than that. There are still knives among these that I need/want in order to complete/fill out my collection.

So, I'm not satiated yet. ;)

I thought i was fine with my collection a few years ago. Then got the itch to added some new stuff in the last year or so, but at least this time I have also given a few away to family and sold a few others. So I think I am done again, except I do want something maybe with magnacut steel to round things off. Will probably continue to sell more and really reduce the collection to things I really like owning and or using. Funny I had the same problem with kitchen knives for a long time but there I really did stop adding anything, will need to reduce some of those soon.

I've bought knives for various reasons throughout my life.

As a child I used to buy knives because it was rare for me to come across a knife, so I jumped at every opportunity to acquire a new or different one. This was long before the internet, and before I discovered things like gun shows and brick/mortar knife stores where knives were abundant.

I've purchased knives to use them, but I have more "users" than I could ever need. If I started cutting from the time I woke up until the time I went to bed for the rest of my life, I still wouldn't need another "user". No more buying "users" for me.

As an adult with disposable income I used to buy knives just for the thrill and enjoyment of having a new knife. But I've gotten over that. Practicality, and limited funds made that choice easy. I actually wish I had overcome this compulsion years earlier.

I have pursued "grail" knives, and I have achieved my "grails", so that quest has ended and there are no more "grails" for me to pursue. I'm very content with that. More than content actually.

My knife buying is over. At least that's what I tell myself. I still enjoy looking at knives online, and sometimes infatuation strikes, but self-control and practicality win out. At least so far. I don't think a person can ever really "kick" the knife addiction, I think all you can do is fight it.

Of course if money were not an issue, there are several knives I would buy, not based on need, but based solely on my appreciation for knives.

Those are 2 fine knives to "settle" on.

Yes, but I know it won’t last.

Knives are my first passion and I’ll never stop pining over particularly beautiful examples.

I’m drawn to “survival” knives, and for me it was about “going big”.

I got this Siegle Bowie a couple of months ago and haven’t really felt the itch since then.

Something about having the largest knife I’d want to carry at the top of my collection soothed my soul. Also the fact that it’s gorgeous didn’t hurt. :)

It’s a weird but nice feeling not to be scouring the internet for my next fix. It really is just like a drug in ways. Glad to be on the wagon for the moment.

I quit collecting about 10 years ago. Feel much better. Still go to an occasional knife show to look at them and chat. Will once in a blue moon pick up an opportunistic buy if it is cheap enough. Like a unusual Case vault release in CV or a GEC/Queen in a pattern I have never tried. 99 times out of 100 a pass those by too.

I only carry a Case large stockman or a Russlock now and have done so for past 20 years. It's kinda nice to actually wear a knife out over time.

Hogue/Sig has a new one coming that intrigues me, the K320 AXG. Thumbhole with an axis lock that's not a Benchmade. I could be could be convinced.
