Anyone else getting burned out on framelocks?

well, since the OP asked.. yup I'm getting burnt out. I might take a short break from knife collecting until this fad phases out. Don't get me wrong, I like my share of them, but I like collecting knives for "what's new" designs and features. I left the "functionality" boat a long time ago, and have more than enough knives to satisfy actual cutting needs. So if the novelty of a design or feature remains stagnant, I get less interested.

When Chris Reeve invented the framelock, I wonder if he realized how rampant it was going to get.

No, but then again the only frame lock I own is a large Sebenza 21 which I carry every day.

I am not a die hard supporter of Frame Locks. What I am a die hard fan of is good fit and finish, great hardware, ability to take apart and clean etc. If Benchmade's fit and finish was consistent and the Large Grip was made with G10 and liners as the regular model, I might have one for a beater. I love the compression lock. Spyderco's fit and finish is good and the para2 is designed well. I may pick another up again (will be my 4th). However, I will probably end up selling it again because it doesn't stack up to my XM-18 or Sebenza in terms of fit/finish, great hardware, and coolness factor.

Loves me some good frame locks and the axis lock is fantastic as well, but i hate thin linerlocks!

Agreed.....NOT a fan of liner locks at all! I've owned some and sold them all......I do love the Triad lock on Demkos; that is a great mechanism!!

I don't really care for metal handles, so I only have a couple of frame lock knives. That number is unlikely to grow very much, unless it's a knife with a lot of redeeming factors to make up for that.

I used to hate frame locks and liner locks, But now that I have a few good ones they are growing on me.

Though I still kinda look at frame locks as unfinished liner locks. Another scale on the other side would look nicer in most cases IMO.

A frame-linerlock? :D Or liner-framelock.. hmm.

I love a frame-lock!

What's the second to the bottom (With a light blue scale.) called?

I recently took the scales off a cheap folder. Is it now considered a framelock? Still works and locks fine.

after i gotten used to the weird feel when i gripping, i think titanium framelocks are the most elegant folding knife handles ever designed. practically fail-safe (through not the strongest), won't jam even with dirt, sand and crud (while all others will), and it's simply a looker.

Never really liked them to begin with.

I think they are out dated as a lock type.

Or a Spyderco. Many lockbacks from the company, I'd like to see what they can come up with having the Triad lock. Great ergos, deployment hole, steel options... imagine adding the Triad to that mix.
They've basically got that now. That new Powerlock seems like their workaround where they've changed enough to get a new patent, but it's basically a backlock with a stop pin. Though there's a lot of differences there in how the backlock actually locks into the blade vs a traditional backlock.

Looks like it's one of Tim Galyeans midtechs, I'm blanking on the name right now.

As for the question, I don't mind frame locks and I actually prefer liner locks over frame locks. To be honest as long as it seems thought out regarding the type of lock in a knife I'll carry it.

Frame locks will be around long after people say ~~ what was a Liner lock like.?? CRK's and Spyderco and some others have made a lot of $$$ off of the poor ole Frame lock and I have not seen any Fingers missing yet because of them and I use several frame locks everyday of the year and as of yet none have gone "Ape" on me yet & don't look for any of my Frame locks to bite me either.!**

I am not a fan of frame or liner locks. I like Axis lock and have been buying just that style of knife for a while now.
Frank.

I seem to be buying more of them than any other lock style. Just received this in the mail today:

Framelocks are alright. I've got a few, one's titanium. I don't really see what the big deal is, though, especially as far as performance is concerned. I much prefer an Axis lock, compression lock, or Tri-Ad lock (in that order, from least to most favorite). All stronger, all available at much lower prices than the cheapest Ti framelocks.
