Anyone else getting burned out on framelocks?

No, I am not getting burned out on framelocks. Not that the framelock is my favorite lock, but all my favorite knives happen to be framelocks.
This is most of them, plus I've got a couple on their way to me including a new Hinderer and a second Dauntless :)

I've even sent out linerlocks to be converted into Ti framelocks. I like them, and really could care less if others don't. There's just something about keeping things simple that appeals to me.

Framelocks are alright. I've got a few, one's titanium. I don't really see what the big deal is, though, especially as far as performance is concerned. I much prefer an Axis lock, compression lock, or Tri-Ad lock (in that order, from least to most favorite). All stronger, all available at much lower prices than the cheapest Ti framelocks.

Where are you going to find an axis lock or a compression lock for "much lower" than $40? Ganzo knockoffs don't count

I'll just leave this here. http://www.bladehq.com/item--Boker-Plus-Chad-Los-Banos--5946

I know that I am kinda repeating my self here but I will say it again. If Benchmade made knives with the fit and finish (not talking LE Gold class, etc) of CRK or Hinderer, I would probably like the Axis lock best. Better yet, Benchmade and CS should allow others to use their proprietary locks. I get the sense that they would take a HUGE hit to their business by allowing other manufacturers use these locks.

They are rampant, however I still like the design and the aesthetics of a well done frame lock. I am getting really sick of sticky titanium frame locks. Seriously, either use a steel lock face insert or carbidize(sp?) the lock face. There are some very expensive Ti frame locks being sold that don't do this and it drives me nuts. Goes back to what some of you have said, "it has to be well done".

Right you are.

I personally prefer Axis or similar ( Bolt/ball bearing) and the compression lock. It seems any time i have a problem with a knife it stems from the liner/frame lock. Thats just speaking for me though.

Frame locks will be around long after people say ~~ what was a Liner lock like.??

i would seriously doubt that.

CRK's and Spyderco and some others have made a lot of $$$ off of the poor ole Frame lock and I have not seen any Fingers missing yet because of them and I use several frame locks everyday of the year and as of yet none have gone "Ape" on me yet & don't look for any of my Frame locks to bite me either.!**

only liner lock failures you'll see are from makers not doing the liner lock properly and/or poor knife handling. point being expect to see more frame lock finger removals and cuts as more makers gravitate to it, and like the liner lock are made incorrectly.

Absolutely not. I have ZERO trust in liner locks! To me a frame lock is the evolution of a liner lock. Just is a stronger better version.

Isn't that just putting faith in a slightly thicker version of the same lock that you have "ZERO trust" in? I don't grasp the logic in your statement. Liner locks rarely if ever break; usually failure is from the way it interacts with the blade and wear/tear. The same things affect a framelock, the titanium framelocks perhaps worse, which is why they started putting the steel inserts in.

Never bought a framelock; have owned a couple though. As a result, I don't really encounter lock rock, or early/late lockup, accelerated wear on a lockface, or any of the other typical issues that seem to come up only with framelocks. Haven't really seen linerlocks have any of those problems, either. Just my $0.02.

I've been burned out by them for a little while now.

It definitely seems like all the really nice designs were nothing but frame locks for a while, I think things are turning around though.

I really wish there was some more innovation, just something different than a frame or liner lock but just as easy and strong

G&G Hawk... There is your innovation. :)

sure wish one of the old timers who knows would pitch in...but seems Micheal walker actually messed around with a frame lock style prior to improving on it by adding a scale on top of it. There is an article mr. Levine wrote talking about this.........Regardless if right or wrong......A proper done liner lock won't fail anymore than a frame lock done properly will.....that I am pretty darn sure of.

Whoa, I think I've seen the Combative Edge M1 folder around, but I hadn't noticed how awesome the blade looks. That picture makes the blade look a lot like the one on the Galyean Lahar, which is apparently the name of the folder I asked about earlier in the thread.

axis lock > all

I still have a frame lock and liner lock in my rotation though. I had to use my benchmade like a fixed blade for an entire day of hard use cutting tasks (I was the only one with a knife, and we had to cut hundreds of feet of tough plastic drainage mat, gritty caulk and dried mastick). I felt safe letting other people use my benchmade knife knowing that it wouldn't close on them. Cannot say I would do the same with my liner locks or frame locks because non knife people are dumb about knives.

My choice as well.

Have several Frame Locks and love them but for real strength; I prefer the Axis Lock.

It's got a pretty good look to it. I dig swedges and clip points. The only knife in the pic without some sort of swedge is the DPx :) I suppose the blade does bear more than a passing resemblance to the Lahar. I have no idea what size that knife is but the M1 is pretty large. A 3.75 blade and about 3 feet of handle, it carries surprisingly well for such a big knife.

I'm actually partial to liner locks over frame locks. But do tell how a frame lock is stronger than a liner lock? After all, a chain is only as strong as it's weakest link (in this case, the cutout).

You have used subjectivity and tried to pass it off as objectivity.

Calm down there ladies. Last time I checked, I stated my opinion. As a matter of FACT all my posts on here are inherently my opinion. Who woulda thought!

I thought we were ALL stating our opinions in a debate. This is a forum, correct? Why get snarky bout it, man? No one said anything rude or sarcastic to you.
