Anyone else looking forward to the GEC #83?

I'm not sure why but I'm really looking forward to seeing (and possibly buying) the new pattern #83 by GEC.

Although I'm not yet decided on what version to be interested in ...
Stag? Smooth orange bone? Smooth yellow bone? Ebony? Tortoise acrylic? Jigged bone?

... these little lockbacks are definitely approaching ...

Anyone else interested in these?

Do i spot a lanyard tube? :) I didnt pick this up on the diagram.

It looks like the jig bone Tidioute is going to be purple sage. Wonder if the other jig bone variants are the same.

I'm really fond of lockbacks...even GEC ( ~ ) lockbacks. I have a few of them and I'm interested in the 83s.

I own at least 35+ lockback knives made by many different companies. Almost all of the lock up tight. Even two $12.00 Rough Riders. But my GECs have vertical play in them. Now its not enough to say it is a determent to the knife or the lockup. But, it is still there.
They just refuse to get it right. I'm just one of many here who have mentioned this about the GEC lockbacks.

Maybe the smaller 83 will be the one they get right

I'm excited about the 83 despite the potential blade play. I edc a 72 and the blade play has never affected it's functionality.

I've been considering getting a small lockback for a while but none of the ones I've seen have really done it for me. An 83 drop point in stag may be the one I've been looking for.

Looking at the CAD drawing on their site, it's going to be likely a nice little blade.

Sure wish they'd get over whatever it is that prevents them from using stainless blades for more models.

I should quantify that by saying I'm assuming they're all in 1095, as in my quick search, I didn't come across final specs or pricing info.

I think this will be a very popular pattern, and I'll be slippin' one into my pocket for a test ride. It will take up little pocket room and pack quite a bit of blade into a small frame. Plus, they're easy to open (for arthritic hands). Any play in the lockup has never been an issue with me; just something I never really notice in use. 72's and 42's I've handled with tight locks were difficult to un-lock. :D:D:D

I have a drop point in green micarta reserved. I am eagerly awaiting this New model. Handle and blade shape very similar to my beloved model 73 but slightly smaller and easier to open. Sounds like a winner for me.

Does anyone know what the price point will be on these? I looking at a drop point Tidioute in either jigged bone (not sure about purple sage though) or Tortoise acrylic.

Anticipating this one with a lot of enthusiasm. A small LB is a really useful item and a pocket-companion.

I agree with Joe about the dearth of stainless, some people have stated that GEC stainless knives don't sell and remain on dealers' shelves. Could be, but I actually suspect the GEC command just doesn't like stainless knives too much, I would welcome more of their 440c in all patterns but don't get the chance.

Lot of tasty handle options here, I might opt for the simplicity of the Tidioute as these are often remarkably satisfying. As for blade-play, I found my 72 a bit disappointing in this respect - not up to competitor standards. However, with the intro of the Wall St. 99 not long ago, all those concerns were completely addressed, it's a first-rate made LB and I expect the new 83 to be just as well constructed. Here's a picture of my Stag Wall St. on arrival.

Does anyone know what the price point will be on these?

I don't know what they will cost but I expect it will be less than $200 for the non-stag handle material.

I really hope this knife lives up to my expectations. I suppose if it doesn't I can sell it off and get a Buck 501 from their custom shop.

This will be my first lockback (since I was a kid) and first micarta knife. When this pattern was first announced I wasn't interested in the knife at all. But as I've looked at it more and more, I've gotten increasingly excited. Can hardly wait now! :)
