Haven't be able to afford one yet to get sick of it.

The rust resistance really appeals to me though.

I only have one knife in MC.
It seems nice but I honestly haven't used it much. It's sorta small.

I'd like to get a user in MC, but I'm tired of all the price increases.
And just cannot bring myself to spend the money on the one I want when I can buy the same knife in the basic blade steel for half the price. And I sorta like that blade steel.......

So what's the point?

^^^ This!!

As Carl Jung said, "Thinking is hard. That's why most people just judge."

And I'm guilty too of riding the bullet train to an incomplete conclusion to avoid the hard, often tedious, work involved. It's so much easier to just pop off an opinion you've pulled out of thin air, among other places, than to dig in and question, analyze, research (independently and on your own, no gaslighting accepted), verify, scrutinize, reach a conclusion, then start questioning the veracity of your own result to motivate additional & more granular searching into the matter at hand. So I'll line up with Mr Jung on his observation, based on what I've often enough noted in myself and my fellow humans. 🙄
I actually pull my opinions from the collective unconscious thank you very much

To be honest I know very little about powder steels but I used to forge yellow, white and blue carbon steel knives in Hong Kong thirty odd years ago in a 150 year old forge - no steam or electric hammers - all by hand, very old fashioned set up.
I used to read blacksmithing books from the 1880`s.
I did it as a hobby at night and weekends to de-stress from a high-pressure sales job.
Altogether I`ve done over 700 Asian and European style knives, sickles, axes and hatchets - out of them about a hundred were stainless and semi stainless. That`s my output since 1979.
It took over ten years for my reject rate to go down from over 30% to under 5% and in the late nineties it was about 1-2%.
I`ve only made about two dozen tools in the last 25 years because of severe ill health - I have AVN which is like arthritis with knobs on.
Personally I prefer a balanced steel that is really tough with above average edge retention and is not a PITA to sharpen.
I have a full-tang bespoke caidao in RWL-34 that has been differentially hardened so at the spine it`s low fifties in the middle it`s 54-55 and at the edge it`s HRC 59-60 - it was a pure b*****d to make but will do me.
It can smash coconuts and go through 2 inch beef bones - I don`t know if magnacut can do that - I wanted a bomb-proof knife that can also push-cut cigarette papers with a dark Asian striped ebony handle with no rivets that wont stain but is harder than black ironwood and snakewood.
All the rest of my knives are mostly budget stainless or carbon cleavers - my gf loves fancy stainless Japanese knives and scissors because she`s a seamstress and upholsterer for charities - I feed the homeless.

What's the big deal?

My multi-tool has magnacut...

Not really an unbiased source …
But it’s the best, most thorough source we have. Larrin’s got and excellent comprehension of the scientific method, great analytical skills, integrity and his method is laid out there for the world to see. I don’t see anyone else doing the work he does.

S!K and BRK have both been troublemakers, and I wouldn’t trust either with Magnacut or any other steel. It’s also the least scientific, most backwater “a heeeeuck, da knaf broke” bullshit.

They're reminiscent of The Transparent Knives Tik Toker in terms of credibility.

I wish more knives would come in magnacut.

Still tons of 1095, D2, AUS-8, S30V, S35Vn, 154cm, 4116, Aus-10, 420HC, S45Vn, VG10, 440A, 440C, M390/cts 240p/other one, 1070, 80crv2, 8670, etc., etc. being used, from what I see. Just to name a few.

I see it as technology improving. Just like led flashlights. Almost noone makes a incandescent flashlight anymore. I would love to see the market standard become properly HTd magnacut instead of aus something, cr#mov, s#v, etc. I would consider picking up more knives I wouldn't buy now because I don't want the steel they use

Commercial makers have lots of steel they purchased at yesterday's prices, but new Magnacut has to be purchased at today's prices. Higher prices are to be expected for a while, but some makers are exploiting that some more than others. Choose wisely.

IME of testing & making knives out of Magnacut - It has higher/better overall properties than comparable (composition wise) steels. It earns industry wide adoption on merit. Businesses don't operate on hype(*note 'hype' i.e. not real/validated = fizzled out quickly).
The knife in the DBK video broke at square jimping (stress riser) in a heat affected zone that wasn’t removed after laser cutting.
MC knife in video has U-shape jimping, not square. U is similar to C notched (and close to Un-notched), whereas square is similar to V notched with small bending radius.

I really liked CruWear and M4 when corrosion wasn't a huge concern, LC200N when it was. MagnaCut gives me virtually all of the best of those steels without any significant drawbacks. I'll still use some other higher vanadium steels when I want ultimate edge retention in a dedicated slicer, without a big concern for toughness, but I occasionally have to use my knives quickly/improperly and will always tend to carry something more balanced. As a professional Firefighter/Medic that also has a long commute through rural areas. I don't plan on abusing/misusing anything, but occasionally need to use the tool in my pocket in not exactly its designed role. If it fails, I'm 100% ok with the cost (or the cuts), but I know it might happen.

And MagnaCut was also my choice for gift knives to family members where I knew it wouldn't be easy to break, easy to dull, or easy to corrode. Specifically the Hogue/Ritter RSK collaboration in MagnaCut found its way into my father/father in laws Christmas gifts this year. It can literally be the last knife either of them carry.

Our boi from down under did corrotion n edge retention test on H2-LC200N-MagnaCut.

Cutting test was like LC200N(wich in his previous tests has been pretty close to S30V) did twice as much rope as H2 and MagnaCut did twice as much rope as LC200N.

Love the part when he talks about him trying some anti balding hair growth elixir that made him seriously suicidal 🤣
