If only somebody, somewhere did some scientific testing.

Is this steel new just to be new? Time will tell. I'd like to test it and see how it cuts. Is it far better than plain old carbon steel? Is it easier to sharpen? All I've seen about this steel is praise or criticism. Let's see some scientific testing.

Jokes aside 😜
Here's a good place to start

Here are some rankings to further help put things into context in lay peoples terms

I think you might want to talk to Larrin...

I'm a little over it, I have a lot of good knives with carbon steel so it seems to be somewhat opposite of what I'm looking for. However it seems to be a good development in the knife world and as long as it benefits other people then I remind myself not to be bothered about it.

Not sick of it. Great steel. I'll take it, so long as it has a proper HT. That being said. If I'm going for performance, I'll take Cruwear or M4 over it any day. Still happy with basic carbon steels like O1, 5160, 80CRV2, 8670, 52100, etc. If I really must have stainless, I'm a fan of good AEBL. Acts like a basic carbon steel. Hopefully see more of that stuff coming up.

Not really an unbiased source …

That's a negatron ghost rider.

There's actually a lot of information and testing about this subject, but I wouldn't want you to get too exhausted from learning something new.

Sit back and relax. Make it up as you go.

Doubt vanax would perform like this

Technological advancements have been the downfall of the knife world. We should have been satisfied with the sharpest rock we could find. Then some genius figured out how to flintknap and pressure flake, and things have gone down the toilet ever since.

Since I & my inner OCD child, like others, are rabid for lots of different types & species of steel to chase & obsess over, all along I thought I was trying to be some kind of Steel Connoisseur. Turns out I'm just a run of the mill Steel Slut!!

Guess I shoulda spelled it Steel KindaSewer since I'm willing to gather in whatever comes pouring out of the pipe.
😉😆

It's a good problem to have.

Hmm <thinking> what is the skankiest steel in your opinion? Old 8cr13mov gets around I hear…

Preach brother!

Ugh so over it being on EVERY damn knife.

Companies’ charging more for it like it so spesh when it doesn’t even hold an edge like S45.

Even bloody CRK, who should only be allowed to use steels that Chris had a hand in designing, are using magnacut.

Made the knife landscape so damn bland (in addition to every knife being a made in China ti flipper meow). I want variety dammit.
As a collector of folding knives, I don't really see the appeal of magnacut. I think it would be great on a fixed.

I've yet to try it, as I prefer high edge retention steels like M390 or even S125V and S390.

I am also in agree on the titanium flipper thing, in general. I don't get the appeal of titanium other than cool anodized designs. I prefer micarta and CF, or natural materials.
