I'm not trying to complain and most of my knives are s30v, but it seems like I'm waiting for a shift to another material to be more common

I'm hoping spyderco will be the first company to shift to something else on their models like they have with the light weight manix 2

Nope, S30V works just fine for folders and smaller fixed blades. Has good edge holding, corrosion resistance is acceptable, is readily available, not a nightmare to grind or machine, and takes a really nice edge when sharpened properly. Spyderco has released more varieties of steel than any one single company I would think. If you are after something new or different, there are sprint runs for that very purpose, along with the limited production runs available from time to time, you also have the Mule Team knives. As far as what you are hoping for, that was already accomplished a long time ago.

Yes, but then again, I've lived a spoiled life. :p S30V is still a great steel; my BM Grip is S30V and it does everything I need it to (sharpens up nicely, holds a working edge well-enough, resists corrosion). Honestly, I think we've all been spoiled by knife producers and steel producers with all the great, modern material choices available.

ZT seems to pretty regularly Elmax.

yoko I definitely feel ya, my blur in s30v ended up pretty dull after trimming a few shingles. And although shingles are a heavy task, the blade was also a bit chipped and ended up with a few rust spots after only a couple days hanging out on my desk.

It does seem that ZT is putting out a lot of knives in the Elmax steel, maybe it will be their flagship until the next big steel comes along. I am starting to fancy tougher steels that are easier to sharpen, but that's a conversation for another thread.

I'm hoping m390 and its variants will start to become more common. Cts-B75p looks promising too.

I vote for CPM-20CV( USA M390 equivalent) or CPM-S110V.Some standard production models have and are going to release this year in these steels.Evolution is happening and prices are rising....I never had any issues with S30V and it has served me well.

I don't think it has anything to do with S30V steel.
You guys are just plain bored and need to go get laid!

Yep, I'm blaming s30v not only for how often I get laid, but also trying unsuccessfully to get my lady into knives just as much as me, as well as every other problem in my life!! Cursed s30v steel... :p

Not tired of S30V at all, but the S110V Manix 2 has replaced it for EDC for me....

Now I use S110V both as EDC and in the Kitchen both, just been waiting for it in a folder at the right RC range.

I'm confused on how you would "tire" of S30V.
Are you just sick of seeing it engraved on your blades?

Nope.... I've been very pleased with the steel. It takes and holds a great edge in my experience.

Nah, s30v is still a great steel no matter how tired of it one may become. I think of it as the standard for supersteels cause its so common, and things that are common are common because they tend to be good. But S110V is my new favorite:D

Not at all. S30V is an excellent blade steel. As with any technology, there's always going to be newer stuff coming out. That doesn't make the current stuff any worse. There are still a lot of nice knives made in humble 1095 after all. If nothing else, the next generation of super steels may just bring down the price for the current super steels.
