anyone else tired of s30v?

Never been a fan. I prefer D2, 154cm, VG-10 over S30v.

S30V is one of my favorite steels. Not the best & not the worst but hits a sweet point in keeping an edge, easy to sharpen, and decent cost.

JMO. :)

Tired of S30V?... Ah, first world problems. :D;)

I think it's just fine but there's lots of other steels out that that interest me more. For instance, I'd love a ZT 0300 in M4, Elmax or even better 3V.

I liked my Spydie Millie in S30V; it saw a fair bit of work while I had it. I like my Spydie Millie in S90V & CF even more! :D:cool::thumbup:

Nope. I like it. In the applications I use it for, it works fine.

It was only about 6-12 years ago or so that CPM-S30V was the new top SUPER STEEL! Now some people are bored and tired of plain old S30V.

I feel old!:p LOL

I'm very used to S30V since most knives I like happen to like come with that steel. Works great for me. Great corrosion resistance. Put a coating of Milllitec oil on it and never have to worry about rust.
Sharpens up great and holds a nice working edge. Would be great to start seeing S30V on $50 and under priced knives.

What is even crazier is how quickly new steels are coming about compared to a decade ago, give or take. And as soon as a new steel comes out, the question of its replacement arises. It's like the iPhones...speaking of which, someone is going to have to develop an app to keep track of all of these different steels.

Most of them aren't really new, they have been used by custom makers and in other parts of the steel industry.

I'll go into further detail of my feelings of S30v. I've owned several knives in it, and it has been inconsistent. Benchmade 162--Rolls easily, does not maintain an edge at all. Strider SnG--Pretty good. ZT0350TS--blah. Spyderco Nilakka--Subpar so far. Spyderco PM2--ok, nothing special.

Its ok, but I would not spend the extra money to upgrade to it from another steel, such as Kershaw's Blur. The Sandvik 14C28N is a good steel, and S30v is just not enough of an upgrade to warrant the cost IMO.

I first want to say that I have no problem with S30V, its a great steel in my opinion. but I think ZT has it right, their 2014 knifes are coming in either Elmax or M390. Elmax for their working models and M390 in the "classy version". I like stone washed elmax for a working knive its a tough steel and the stone wash finish hides any minor scratches very well. M390 has great edge retention but its a bummer when you strach up the finish on such a nice knife. use the Elmax for hard use and the CF M390 version for light use. I think thats a great combo.

MONEY MAKER !!

Interesting! I've not been into customs all that long and I didn't realize that. I was under the impression that a large bulk of the PM steels we see on many knives today has been within the next decade or so?

Considering I don't have s30v nope, not tired of it or tired of any of the blade steels I use for that matter. Want to try something different on the other hand when the option presents itself is another story. One of the many reasons why I chose to get a GEC Bullnose over the competition as I wanted to put 01 through it's paces and see how good it was.

[Scratching Chin]I do have a final design project for an Android programing class coming up in a few months... [/Scratching Chin]

I 100% see where you're coming from. It is nice to have variety, but s30v is just such a great steel I see why it's so popular. I much prefer it to 154 cm or AUS 8 and things like that. It just seems hard to beat.
