Anyone else want to see the ZT0500 MUDD brought back?

I really like my MUDD's!!! I have a stock version and then I modded one more to my liking---the change I made that I really like is the addition of the finger choil. The choil is great for more detailed work:thumbup:

That looks great. I have 2 and I would love to strip the blade, get it satin finished and have the liners anodized dark blue or something

Thanks mr2blue:) The removal of the finish on the liners was super easy---took my time with the choil---made sure to keep the blade cool in water from time to time. In regards to the blade pivot and thumb disk, I just used 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper.

The MUDD is a favorite knife of mine---the size turns some people off but working construction the size doesn't bother me at all.

The seals are made of urethane which is bendable and stretchable. For the 2 years I used my MUDD hard, the seals NEVER let anything into the pivot, or the lock (lock is sealed with urethane also). There was a video that showed Grant Hawk burying the knife in sand, uncovering it, and it opened/closed as smooth as a babies butt. In the video he did this not once, but 5 times. Results were the same as the first try.

I never noticed any drag on closing the blade, BUT it may be because I keep the pivot very tight on my knives. I can open them, but most other folks can't!:D

I have used mine hard in very dirty environments. It has been subjected to concrete dust and all manner of abrasives. It has been submerged in water and sprayed with solvents. It's been used to hammer on things and it has been used to pry, and to cut sheet steel.

The pivot hasn't loosened and the seals are as good as new. I like this knife!

Damn. Why don't I have a ZT yet?
Well, time to feed the addiction I guess. Hmmmmm.... I could use that CRK Umnumzaan pictured above too. Would complement my Sebenza!
Off to the bank now.

I've had the same results. It is one of my favorite knives.

I hope I don't ruin your night, but I ordered from Botach also and they didn't have any inventory. They sent me an email a few days later saying they didn't know if they could find another one.

You mean you actually have it in hand from Botach, or you ordered it and it let the order go through?

So AM, how you still liking your MUDD?

Yeah it's great. Like its RAM counterpart, it's far from perfect, but in a sense, it makes them more lovable. They abandoned some actually good conventions and ended up with very unique designs.

The paint on the MUDD's clip is already wearing off, which is really bizarre. Why don't they just use the DLC on it? The DLC on this particular knife, by the way, has been very tough. Tore through quite a bit of cardboard, it streaks, but then it just cleans right off. Just like my Avalanche.

I really can't decide which design I like more, the RAM or the MUDD. I mean, obviously the MUDD is a superior knife when you take into account materials and fit and finish, but from a design standpoint. The lock is better on the MUDD, but the RAM has a great flipper. But the MUDD is waved. The G10 is much nicer on the MUDD, but the RAM has much better ergonomics and a finger choil.

The RAM has a pretty good clip, but man, the MUDD's is my favorite ever, and the first in my entire life to surpass the mighty Spyderco wireclip. That's not necessarily due the aesthetic design of it, but combine that with the low-rider nature of it and yes, I think it exceeds the wireclip. It's very subtle in the pocket, which makes it actually EDCable.

I wish it had greater resistance to opening though, or a better "sucking" motion to pull the blade back in. There's no way the RAM will come open in your pocket, but the MUDD certainly can. It's still better than your average liner lock though, resistance wise.

And I guess what I'd really like to emphasize about both and all G&GH folders is their fun factor. I've played with the XT on several occasions and now have two of their folders, and what they have in common is they're all just great to play with and innovative. They just have that feel to them that no one else really does.

G&GH is now up there with Ken Onion as my favorite knife designers. Hopefully Kershaw will keep producing their designs.

I noticed, the other night, the True North Knives has the ZT0500 in stock. It is a little bit higher in price, but that may have something to do with them being located in Canada?

Just a head's up!

Hey AM. Having had both also I much prefer the MUDD, but that is only because I like the larger knives. I always cover my clips with black 3M Stair Step tape that is something like skateboard tape. Not only does it cover up the splocthy blace, or silver of uncoated clips, it also helps with drawing the knife from your pocket, especially since I use deep carry clips that place the entire knife down into my pocket.

I had the same problem with my MUDD and it's blade so I just tightened up the pivot since I want a tight pivot on my knives for that very reason, and to ensure I'll get NO side to side play. I've had people cuss me when they try to open my knives and end up peeling the skin on there thumb!!:D:D

I actually have it in hand. The e-mail said it would take until the 22nd to receive it from ground shipping but I received it on the 20th and ordered it on the 17th.

I can't believe that I got the last one, I never thought I was that lucky. Sorry for the bum info.

Lol that figures doesn't it? But good find. Everyone should get it while they can, although I doubt this is the last we'll hear from the G&GH team.

As per true north knives, I actually did order one from TNK but Neil freaked out when I asked him to check the blade centering and play and hung up on me. You can find my story elsewhere. Fortunately, my other dealers are much better and got the knife to me faster for about $40 less and in perfect condition, so I'm better off for having been treated badly.

But others may have better luck. TNK's got a great reputation so I don't know what was wrong with them on that given day.

As per which I prefer, it's so hard for me to decide. The MUDD has been receiving more pocket time lately, but that's probably because I owned a RAM a couple years back already so it doesn't have that wow/new factor the MUDD has.

This was already hashed out in GBU. Neil felt that the transaction would go poorly and declined to sell to you, end of story.

That wasn't the end of the story. The end of the story was that he was inferior in both price and service.

But this has nothing to do with the MUDD. I mentioned it only to explain that I had tried TNK and why it didn't work out.

There's a section for that discussion and a post already made. It can be discussed further if people want, but I won't be part of it.

Keep this conversation to the MUDD and G&GH.

That is interesting AM. I did remember you telling about a dealer that did that, just didn't know it was TNK.
