So I tend to carry a few expensive knives, like a Lambert Whar, Strider CC SnG and other things in the 250-500 dollar range. I'm not so much worried about loosing them, but has anyone ever had an officer or someone in authority take your knife? How about just stolen?

No, but I have had one stolen out of my truck. Microtech Option II, only $80.00 new, but Microtech discontinued them and now they routinely sell for over $300.00 bucks on ebay.

Microtech will not make another run of them so I'm out, still burns my ass to this very day, I can only dream of catching the lowlife POS and putting a bullet in his/her head and I would without hesitation. Rest of my life in jail or the chair, I don't give a flying rats A. Stealing really, really, really rubs me the wrong way. I don't care if was an 50 year old crack head or a couple of 12 year old kids getting their kicks. If I would have caught em I would put em down like a rabid dog.

If it was your own kid, what would you do? I hate thieves too, but the dealth penalty for theft is a little over the top IMHO

As for theft or cops I have been quite lucky thusfar

Well, aren't you just sunshine and rainbows! :D J/k Stealing is a pretty dick way to make a living. As far as losing any knives that way I have not thankfully.

Yes. Although it wasn't a high $ knife, it was very valuable to me.

Back when I was much younger and dumber, I had a policeman take my first switchblade from me. While he was searching my car prior to putting me in his car, he found a couple of illegal items including a cheap Out The Front switchblade that was in my glove box. I had always wanted one and had finally gotten one from a friend. At that time it was irreplaceable to me, as the internet didn't exist as far as I know, and I had never been to a knife show. Luckily, he didn't charge me with having it. I guess he wouldn't have been able to keep it if he had charged with possessing it. Probably not a bad trade-off, but it was a long time before I was able to find another one.

Did you give him permission or did he have PC for the search?

Not sure. I was very drunk sitting in a wrecked car on the side of the road. Is that probable cause? I was so relieved that I was only being charged with Public Intoxication, not DUI, and that none of the illegal stuff was reported, I didn't put up any fuss at all. Well, not that I recall anyway.

If you were a passenger thats one thing, but if you were the driver, drunk, wrecked car, and not knowing whats going on thats another story.

Nope. I don't leave valuable things in my car, and I've never given a cop reason to search me (and I don't even hide the fact that I'm carrying a knife).

I've never had a knife stolen or confiscated, but carrying a knife that's .4 inches over the legal limit worries me a bit ><

Well I'm not so much worried about acting a fool and having one taken, but you hear stories about cops spotting pocket clips and bam, now you are searched. Mine is of legal size in my area, but lets face it....you are at the mercy of a cop that stops you for any reason. There was a guy on USN that said a cop almost rode off with his Emerson Commander and didn't seem pleased he asked for it back. All turned out well then, but what the hell would you do if he didn't return it and said it was confiscated.

If a cop/LEO were to ever "confiscate" your knife you can get it back. There are some crooked cops who may just want your knife. They aren't dumb, I know a LEO who carries a Spyderco Millie so some of them know knives. All you have to do when they confiscate your knife is 1) Ask for their badge number and 2) Request a receipt for the confiscated item.

By law they have to give you this information. With that you can get your knife back. Worth the hassle? Depends how much that knife means to you.

Thanks for the info. I'll file that one away in the back of my grey matter.

Ken Onion had a dozen custom knives stolen from his luggage.

Nothing expensive, but I almost had my BM 3550 confiscated at a court house, I got lucky, being active duty military and having the senior LEO slip my knife back to me. Most awesome feeling ever.

I thought they would hold my knife for me at the metal detector, the younger LEOs said no, and that I couldn't take it back to my vehicle, told me I wasn't active duty (real bright bulbs).

Just thought I'd just put it out there to anyone heading to a court house... leave anything sharp and pointy in the car, you probably won't get lucky.

I had a bone handled Italian switchblade taken away in the early 70's he found on me. He took it and stuck it into a telephone pole and snapped the blade off. He then handed it back to me and said now go home. Sounds good to me, I went straight home needless to say. They probably would'nt do that in this day and age. They'd probably take you straight to jail.

took a bump in 80s when theives got amint bertram pearl whittler, case double x green bone trapper, western states brown bone whittler, african blackwood custom push dagger, pearl pardue coffin handled locker & others.you do'nt forget a fall such as that easiley.

Yes putting a bullet in a 12 year old kids head over a 80 dollar knife sounds like a great idea :jerkit:

Yeah a whole box of knives, it was about $2000 worth during a move.
