Anyone ever had a high $$$ knife stolen or confiscated?

I will tell you as a former NYC LEO, that there were often times officers took knives and did not charge the person, but the knives were put in the trash later. Most officers I knew had a bunch in their locker that would throw them out every year or so. The issue was they would have to charge you or lie and voucher it saying it was found property. In NY at least, you could not take a gravity knife ( any knife that can be flicked open) or another illegal knife away from someone and not charge them. I personally would advise someone of the law ( most did not know it) and told them to put the knife in their closet at home....

I lost my favorite multi-tool when I had forgotten to take it out of my bag when I went to the Indianapolis MEPS. It was confiscated when my bag went through the scanner. On the plus side, they somehow missed the punching dagger that was also in the bag. Twice. I mean, I understand why it was confiscated, but I do think that a sign with 7 point font is not adequate warning about confiscation.

When I was 5 a kid at school stole my cheap-a$$ pocket knife. It was my first pocket knife and worth all of 2 bucks, but I have never forgotten it. The kid was showing it to everyone the next day and denighed stealing it, so I know it was him (Yeah I am still steaming).

Perhaps he cut himself with it at some point? I beleive in karma!

Before anyone starts claiming I have major issues (which I probably do) imagine if you could never have your "first" knife in your collection because some bully/brat stole it? Since it was a gift from my mom and dad it would probably hold more value to me than many in my collection. At least I still have the first "good" knife my dad got me when I joined scouts.

I haven't lost any yet but I thought I had lost a Leatherman. It turned out I had left it on the rail of my treestand and when I went hunting a month later there it was.:) When not in use my knives live in my safe.

No, but I have had one stolen out of my truck. Microtech Option II, only $80.00 new, but Microtech discontinued them and now they routinely sell for over $300.00 bucks on ebay.

Microtech will not make another run of them so I'm out, still burns my ass to this very day, I can only dream of catching the lowlife POS and putting a bullet in his/her head and I would without hesitation. Rest of my life in jail or the chair, I don't give a flying rats A. Stealing really, really, really rubs me the wrong way. I don't care if was an 50 year old crack head or a couple of 12 year old kids getting their kicks. If I would have caught em I would put em down like a rabid dog.

Not to be a dick but I don't think that you could put a bullet in someones head over $80 and even if it was $8,000 who cares. You are actually willing to put a price on a human life and that is sick.

I almost had my BM10100 confiscated. The cops in my area are un-aware of the texas knife size law 5.5 being the biggest, mines skirts in at 5.2, but EVERYONE cop or not always puts it to theri palm and tells me its "illegal" (Kid did this yesterday-20 yr old) and tried to tell me its illegal because its bigger than his palm. Told him and the cop who did that as well that their palm was probably 3 1/2 inchs wide and thats 2 inches shorter than what is legal. I carry measuring tape when I take it out. But now carry a Boker bulldog because its less hastle.

nothing expensive, but I had a butterfly knife that my grandfather left me in his will confiscated by the cops... had sentimental value and having it confiscated was just horrific

Lost my first BM42AS to a podunk cop in MD (where balisongs are not technically illegal). Jerk.

I got in trouble for trespassing when I was a teenager and just out roaming around like kids do. The cops were called and found us and I had to empty my pockets and I had a Gerber lockback knife. The let us go with a warning but I didn't get my knife back. After my parents made a phone call he said that the knife was given to me and he didn't have it. I remember seeing it on the roof so I went back and looked and eventually found it where he drove off and it fell off. Had a couple dings in the FRN but at least they had a story to go with them.

Yea, that was a little harsh. However I have just had it with theft. We live in a very nice neighborhood that is in close proximity to a bad part of the city. We have been having real bad problems with theft for about two years. It started out with just vehicle theft with the perps walking the neighborhood and checking for unlocked doors. Caught me once as my truck sleeps outside with the wifes truck and my trailer with the 4 wheelers sleeping in the garage.

Anyway, they got me on Christmas Eve, now normally I lock my truck every night, don't leave anything laying out exposed, etc. All of which is totally and completely unnecessary as its on my property, but I'll play along we need to be tolerant of others. They hit me hard. Also hit my office where I had all my tools, and most of hunting and offshore fishing gear stored.

Drove up on a weekend not long before the Christmas Eve incident to find someone had knocked the door off of my workshop with a sledge hammer and crow bar and took everything but the dust on the floor. Turns out it wasn't covered under my insurance policy because we have to have a separate rider for an outbuilding, not connect to the main office.

Well lately the vehicle theft in my neighborhood has escalated from just checking unlocked doors to actually smashing windows to gain entry, this has further escalated to vehcile theft and home burglary with them casing house during the day and coming back at night in people who have carports and the little aholes removing one of the window pains and using a grabber or pole with hook to get people keys and purses off of wall hangers and counter tops. Not long ago they actually tried to get into one of the houses with a 80 year old woman inside who rolled into the living room with a revolver.

We now randomly have cops on rooftops at different locations in the subdivision at night and heavy police patrols, just this past Sat night I had three patrol units in front of my house from 5.30 am to 6.30 am when the sun came up as just this past Thursday night a surburan was stolen from backyard neighbors house. It gets to be real old real quick, having to bolt everything down on your property, install alarms, have and keep dogs, make sure every damn door and window is locked all the time everyday, etc, etc. When this is all unnecessary and completely absurd, this is my house and property which I work for tail off for, and to have constantly be on guard is crap. So I'd think that if one of these little punks got their cap peeled it would probably deter the rest of the degenerates aholes from continuing their crime spree.

Until your in a situation like this where you have a whole bunch of crap stolen, repeatedly, can't rightfully afford to replace it all at once because the econo is in the crapper and live in nice area that is on lock down after dark because of the local hooligans. Then don't throw rocks, because you don't know what its like. Beyond frustrating and my comments reflected that. I'm not sorry and I hope something is done these individuals to deter further crime from continuing to happen before someone like the old lady at the back of the subdivision gets hurt are killed because these individuals have never been taught any consequences or boundaries in the name of tolerance.

Just not feeling real tolerant any more. By the way there was a whole lot more in my truck that got stolen that Christmas Eve night than just my $80.00 knife, which is now worth $300.00. Just that knife and cash was over $600.00. The stuff in my shop at the office which is about mile and half from house was over $5,000.00. So yes, I'm a little pissed, but forget about the money. People need to be taught by whatever means necessary keep your Fing hands to yourself and stay the f off of peoples private property. PERIOD.

There is simply no excuse for theft and disrespecting someone else's private property, NONE, whatsoever. Why is ok for the Federal Government to have all of these ZERO Tolerance Policies as their just not going tolerate it anymore, but I as a tax paying citizen must be tolerant of this crap?

MikeC, your situation sucks, no doubt about it. I'd be mad too. But would you really kill someone over some stuff? I sure hope not. George Carlin did an old routine about stuff, and stuff's funny when looked at from his perspective.

I dont know why you are fooling yourself-With all that crap going on it's obvious you live in a SHITTY neighborhood. Get the hell out of there.

I live in a Borderline neighborhood now and ive never ever seen a cop on a roof!

If you are not carrying an illegal knife, I was advised to kindly ask the officer for his/her badge number and a voucher as you will be having your attorney escort you to pick the knife up from wherever it will be made available.

I was told this cuts down on an overzealous PO taking the knife for personal use.

I have never had to employ this tactic, as I have never been stopped or questioned about my knives, and I am careful about pulling in public.

YMMV.

Also - my EDC choice varies based on where I am going. The expensive ones only ride with me if the trip is going to be passive.:D

I would. And if everyone else would then I bet very little stuff would be stolen. I live in Florida with the castle law and I can legally do so. If you break into my property I don't know what you are there for and I am going to protect myself, family, and property.

It's this kind of tolerant thinking that has this country so screwed up.

I very recently had A Blackhawk Tatang stolen somewhere in the postal system between Canada and the US.

Honestly I live in Texas and if someones on my property at night, its either the shotgun or if they manage to get close enough the blade.

From what a cop told me, make sure they are on your property befor you shoot to kill, never shoot to wound.
