Mike,
I have had a couple now ( of the customs) that Ive had to send back that had some problems. One earlier this year. And the other, I just sent back yesterday. Overall, though the customs I have bought Ive been very happy with. But everyone has an "off day" now and then, and unfortunately this time it happened again. The blade on the one I just sent back was ATS-34. The edge on the right side was ground a (little more "wide" than usual and) really "wavy". The tip was ground almost like a "needle point". And the lock had vertical and lateral play when locked open. I sent it back and I know they will make it right. They did on the last one earlier this year that had problems. These things happen. And I have bought many over the (last 22 ?) years from Buck, and have had few problems considering the amount of knives I have bought from them. It is dissappointing to buy a custom and have it happen, but it does sometimes.

I really like my (rosewood) alaskan 110, its been a really good carry knife.

Rev,
I completely agree. Those kind of things are bound to happen. What sets Buck apart is their absolute willingness to make it right. It's a big reason why I'm a Buck fan.

In regards to the horns being discussed, Water Buffalo is the shiny horn with some white or grey in it at times. In texture, is is similar to cattle horn but much more solid instead of hollow. Buffalo is not shiny and an opaque black solid color.

I like to do some tinkering and custom work on my knives and have some of both. It is very different.

Also, Impala horn is very nice stuff. I have a couple of them but haven't worked with it yet. Very dense and solid compared to similar looking horn from animals like springbok, blesbok, etc.

I think 154cm is the USA equivalent of Japanese ATS34.

Mike,
Ithink that's a big reason they have done why they have survived the times! (aside from t he quality).

UPS man just stopped by, he was soaking wet:grumpy:

Beautiful knife!
Don't let it sit around in a safe, take that baby out and show it off!
