Anyone have a "boring" but amazing knife?

CS American Lawman. Monochrome. Flat. Serves nearly any cutting task for me.

I hated my small sebenza 31 for about 2 weeks, I was use to “fidget” friendly knives with some extra bells and whistles. Now it’s in my pocket more than any other knife by far and I can say that I prefer it more than any other knife I own, DID NOT EXPECT THAT!!! I carry it more than my 940s, exclusive spydercos, midtechs, ZTs, blah blah blah. There’s just something about the dang thing and yeah, it’s kinda boring. I handed it to my “non-knife enthusiast” brother and he shrugged his shoulders and handed it back without a single remark. Ha!

This, my friends, is a Gerber Sedulo. A knife you can go onto the Gerber website and “customize” online. Back in the darkness that was the winter of 2020, out of sheer boredom, I did the above and this is the result. Pretty much a nondescript, plastic handled, run of the mill, average, relatively inexpensive 3.5” folder. (Albeit made in the USA.) Shamefully, I have way too many knives (well over 100) and most with far better pedigrees. But the lowly Sedulo gets carried 70-80% of the time. I love this sucker. 8643E3F5-B172-42D5-9A1E-C55189DEE69B.jpeg

Little Wenger Patriot is I think is what it's called. Metal handles, less than a quarter of an inch wide, two blades. Don't even know it's in the pocket til you get it out.. Been dragging it around daily for about 15 years now.

I would have to say all my SAK models for sure. Nothing special, get the job done and would be more lost without one of them in my pocket than any other. It's one reason I always have one with me to go along with a larger folder.

Has anyone else ran I to this - a great knife..... that just gets a "meh" from you for lack of any pizazz?

All knives will become boring though some take longer than others. It is just a matter of time. This is why we keep buying, selling, and upgrading with aftermarket parts.

View attachment 1597071This knife will blow your mind. It cuts cardboard like a laser. Excellent bait knife. Best steak knife ever. Never needs sharping. Dishwasher safe. Under $5.

It simply defies logic to be that good and so cheap and so utterly boring.

My Dexter Russell was stolen when my car got broken into but it lead me to my cheap Vickies:

I think they were like less than ten bucks a pop and I use them more than my other kitchen knives.
I also had a large Dexter Russell carving knife that I gave to my brother cause he's the steak man.
Those white Sani-Safe knives look like throw aways but they are pound for pound the best values in knifedom.

This is a good category to put the knives I sold but missed so much I had to scour the earth to find another to buy back again, a Large 21 Insingo and an XM 18 3.5 no choil slicer.

Well I have several versions of Manix 2 LW and PM2, these designs might be considered boring, but mine are in amazong steels like S110V, M4, K390 and REX45.

Another thing about the White Sani-Safe knives is the amazing selection. They must have 10 different oyster knives alone. At least 10 different fillet knives, and lots of very specific use knives I’ve never even heard of.

I like your kitchen knives, it must be a challenge to get that blue sharpie without losing a finger!

All my gray G10 Maxamet folders see way more carry and use since their scale swaps.
Now I don't mind buying knives with boring scales as long they can be upgraded to something nice.
I think celidor SAKs are also in this category.

I like colorful G10, and I love anodized titanium but I typically use my various plain gray Ti folders instead, reserving the ano for day off with no big foreseeable chores carry days. I guess I have too many nice production knives and should probably downsize some, but then it's nice having several lifetimes worth of knives that I like.
