Anyone know: Mtech Usa?

I don't know anything about them besides they are cheap knock-offs.
Never had one but they couldn't be much at the price they go for.

As far as garbage goes I've seen worse...I consider them the high end of disposable. :D

Some knife companies make great knives with the occasional lemons.

M-Tech makes lemons, with the occasional (and probably by accident) usable one.

Mr. Henry Lee has operated a number of Chinese knife copy companies. He changes the name to protect the guilty. "7 & 7", "Double 8" "M-Tech", etc. are some of the company names he's used.

He has been doing this for as long as I've been in the knife business.

I remember "Double 8" with the Ying-Yang symbol (about 9-10yrs?). The guy has been jumping
all over the place.

Total supercrap. Not only badly made with bad materials using stolen designs, these knives are dangerous to use because they can fail. If you can cherry pick from a lot to find one that has proper lock-up and decent fit/finish, you might have a usable throwaway, but you're far better off looking at a Byrd or entry level Buck or Kershaw (and there's plenty of good ones under $30).

Indeed, the Bird series has dominated the entry-level market in terms of quality materials and build for low cost. I'm surprised that the garbage manufacturers can compete! :D

Has anyone already mentioned that M-Tech makes a business of stealing other people's designs? ;)

I just found one in a drawer that I must've gotten for free somewhere, looks nice, but when opened, I noticed that the liner lock consistently fails to engage. Not that I would consider using it.

I haven't found an MTech that looked like it would last long. A friend of mine at a local Big 5 says they get returned fairly regularly, for everything from faulty components to crappy build quality. I've had a couple, and I killed 'em just for fun. (They now live in the dead knife bucket in my garage.)

I could be wrong, but if I remember correctly, MTech ripped off one or more of Todd & Tanya Begg's knife designs. They approached them & asked Todd to design a model for them, and he said no. Later, looking at the MTech photos of some of their new models, and then photos of Begg's knives, the ripoff was obvious.

I love the look of Begg's designs. I can't abide ripoff manufacturers like MTech. There are too many other good manufacturers out there with great economy designs, like Spyderco, CRKT, Buck, just to name three.

thx - cpr
