Anyone like this knife?

Here is the link to the original listing. Read the reasoning behind the design of the Combination Bowie by the maker. It is enlightening.

It certainly is enlightening...now that we have access to it. "Context" is important in critique, as we have covered in excess lately. As far as your other comments go, either lots of people are sharing the same incorrect opinion of your intent, or you are not being honest with yourself.

Interesting. Now you know that the nickel silver guard is going to turn off the 416 groupies in this forum...lol It is interesting seeing bowies done in the old style. Some designs hold up well 150+ years later and some don't. If you think about it, we, the modern knifemaking community, have actually been refining the bowie pattern for as long or slightly longer than the original smiths and cutlery companies in the 1800's, especially when it comes to the very large bowies. When I look at the Knives annuals from as little as 10-12 years ago, I am astonished at how much better looking the current crop of bowies are across the board. The original bowie had a pretty short life span as a "custom made" product. Much of what we see today, particularly the smaller post Civil War English knives, are, for lack of a better term, production cutlery.

Anyone like this knife?

If so, what do you like about it?

In the interest of Kumbaya, I am only looking for neutral or favorable comments

I probably shouldn't even participate in this thread but I just can't help myself because I just don't get it.

Peter,
I have met you (at least I think I did at last year's ECCKS). You are a nice guy (at least it seemed that way). What's the point?

You are asking a YES/NO question but only want to hear YES? You are obviously smarter than that, so this thread is obviously pointless.

Seems political in nature to me.

BIZARRE.

Anybody even think Peter might have been trying to determine which collectors knew what collectable knives are available and on which dealers sites they are located ?
At least two did. ;)

Doug

I think that any further questions about the purpose of this thread, my secret intentions, and the meaning of life, should be sent directly to the psychics and soothsayers who claim that they know.

It was nice to meet you Thor.

I have come to a realization on many of the knives on here. We only get to see the pictures. I have read many of the post on this thread some positive some negative. Most of them that where negative including mine where based on the picture of the knife itself. To really give an accurate comment on a knife we should consider what the knife feels like when you carry it, hold it and cut with it. Although this knife may not look great visually to some of us it may be a great knife in another respect. Unfortunately we don't get the opportunity to pick it up and look at it we only see the picture. So I am retracting my last comment. I'm giving this knife the benefit of the doubt.

well, now I feel sad that I went and spoke my mind.
Like I said before, I usually try to keep my opinion to myself when I have nothing positive to say about something, (doesn't always happen...) but here in this thread, I took the bait willingly to see where things went. Well, they went nowhere fast, and I'm afraid I look like a bit of an idiot.
Oh well, wouldn't be the first time:).
