Anyone own any of the Cabela's Alaskan Guide Bucks?

It seems there always comes a time when the bell goes off and you realize you have maybe too many "just plain old knives", nothing dear to your heart and that maybe someone will value more than yourself.

Having a 'Theme' helps you focus..I've noticed many older collectors move to Old Custom shop Bucks since it is the greatest challenge. It is the one group of Bucks that you can't pick up on Ebay with a unlimited budget over a weekend. I went with odd 112's and the best part of that decision is some ALWAYS show up..

There was a time when the AG series was the easiest route to getting your favorite Buck model in S30V, and because of that, they presented a great value for a user.

Also, the old DLC coating is amazing stuff and if you did not like the painted on logo it could be removed. Now the coating is painted on crap (don't try to remove the logo)! I will never buy a new one!

Oh, so true, never would I buy a new AG series knife with the CeraKote(d) blade.
AG 692 SV30 DLC coated blade, logo removed...

Mine was purchased direct from Buck factory. It was a blem, so the Cabela’s logo was never applied. I never was able to figure out what in the world made it a blem though. It’s much nicer than a lot of the Buck 119’s I see on the shelf these days as far as the grind is concerned.

I think I used acetone(fingernail polish remover) and a razor blade. I didn't do the 962 but I did do an AG 110.

Edit to add, maybe it was zip strip(paint remover), it's been a while and the memory is foggy ;)
interesting, I might just try it

the rosewood in this photo comes across so much redder (more beautiful imo) than the one I've received, maybe lighting? have u noticed that on your AG the guard seems a bit off? I feel like mine is a bit long on the edge side and a bit shorter on the spine side but I don't feel like going through a lottery exchange to try and get the perfect AG

Those look good without the logo.
👍
I agree. Even though mine is a later Cerakoted blade, I worked with a razor blade to gently remove the logo. I finished it up with a scotch bright pad and some ultra fine grit sand paper. If I look close I can still see where it was but most wouldn't notice it. I plan to do my 110 the same way.

Someone here once told me "it didn't happen without a picture".
😁

Were you scared of scratching the cerokote with the razor or would it not do much to it?
