Before the post gets shut down for not being becker relevant bear with me.

Chris Tanner, or preparedmind101 on youtube, (who I think may still be a member here) designed it. He has said many times in his videos that the bk9 is his favorite chopper but he wanted to take it to the next level. He basically added a longer handle to a bk9 blade. Also said he got Ethan's blessing on it. Seems like a good idea, I look forward to trying it out. For anyone who is going to BLADE, you can check it out at the schrade booth. Although I don't care for many schrade knives, his reasons for using them instead of tops or LT Wright was to keep cost down.

Anyway, I would love to hear some other peoples' thoughts on this blade.

Checkout the videos

Personally, no, I have no plans to purchase this thing.

*To be fair, I don't have plans to purchase any knives at the moment.

Here is my random set of reasons, in no particular order:

  • The knife looks kind of funky
  • I don't like choils, particularly oversized ones like that
  • the handle looks needlessly giant
  • It has a much lower grind than the BK9, so it won't be as slicey
  • I don't actually chop that much
  • The handle scales look really thin
  • The handle looks like one of the large Cold Steel folders
  • The way the handle curves, it looks like it would function kind of like a BK4

Anyway, thats what I was thinking. But I'm glad to hear that they got approval from Ethan before going for it, and its also just nice to know the backstory.

Ugh............. Absolutely not.

That knife is just plain awful and I can't stand that guy.

Plus I do not like the new Schrade company.

And did I mention that CT makes my blood boil.

For every one person on the forums that likes him, there is at least 50 that don't.

This is just my opinion and I hope I don't offend anyone who worships the guy.

Let's just lock this one down now, before the drama starts! Lol

Well not to unlock anything and start drama but…

He is not my favorite either just curious: why does he make your blood boil?

I do find he is very contradicting in his videos over time. However, I do like and continue to watch some of his videos. I like the idea of this knife, not sure how it will pan out. A lot of what logan just said is true, the handles look too thin. If I recall properly He said he got the idea for the handles from the cold steel folders and the cold steel barong. I also like the idea of another knife he designed, but in that case I'm just more partial to the company who is making it (L.T. Wright).

I think he feels like a copy cat with this knife which is why I've heard him say some version of this way too many times. "Even Ethan Becker told me its impossible to truly create a new knife design anymore, there are just took many knifes on the market."

Please keep in mind whatever your opinion may be its not going to offend me. We are all allowed to think differently.

^^ Lol! I'd say off to the quote thread with you but many people wouldn't get it.

If you search enough you'll find it. Best to just drop it and leave it be.

My personal thoughts on the design echo's above. Its just ugly. While it may be functional, I'd rather grind the tang of a BK9 and add a foot long extension of oak to make it more of a chopper. The 'guard' looks to thick to make the choil comfortable. Also copying a Becker blade design then get it made by another company just because they gave you their time of day just seems blasphemous.

I'll laugh at the fools that purchase one of these over a true BK9.

Oh sure, I'd love to purchase a knife designed by a sellout lowlife, made by a company of sellout low lives, and touted as the greatest thing since sliced bread as reviewed by the self-appointed king of backyard prepper gear reviewers. Just because you go out back of your momma's house and film yourself on your little iPhone with your fake fag around your neck doesn't make you shit.

I've searched casually a few times, but coudn't find any of the real meaty drama that gave this guy such a bad name here.

I give him credit for coming up with a design that hasn't been done before and that he believes in, but it is not something that interests me.

That escalated quickly! And shhhh, you're gonna piss off the homosexuals. Lol

Whoa, after reading the posts written as I was typing I'm really curious about the CT dislike. Anyone want to shed some light on that for the noob?

I don't know much about Shrade's history, but it seemed like they were working to make better products recently. What did I miss?

Ok, I will try and be as honest as I can and also as nice as I can because If I tell what would tell you in person here about the guy, I would be banned for sure. :D

First off, I actually supported him in the beginning cause he was a beckerhead and I wished him success.
Well, I quickly realized after watching his first 15 or 20 videos, that guy has no idea what he is talking about most of the time.
I mean the amount of crap that he recommends his viewers bring into the woods is just ridiculous. If someone has basic skills and an understanding of the woods, there is no need for some of the things he suggests. I am not gonna list them but there are at least 10 items he's says you need that you don't.

And off topic, that vaper crap around his neck in every video is nonsense.

He goes back and forth and swears this or that is the best thing ever, then a month later he says something else is the greatest that other thing is crap.
He can't even put together items he reviews properly using the instructions? His ferro rod techniques are horrible.
He claims to do all these awesome mods yet 90% of his mods are sent off to people to do for him. Nothing wrong with that but don't portray yourself as this awesome modder if you are not.
Then his claims about mods like sharpening the spine on a Becker knife was like a first when he did. Beckerheads have been doing all the things he does way before he ever even owned his first becker.

Also, just go back and read all his old posts from when he hung out here......... He was cocky, obnoxious, and most of the time full of BS. But to be honest, I think he believes a lot of what he spews.

None of us are perfect and we all make mistakes. I myself have tons of flaws and things I need to work on, we all do. But he just thinks he knows it all and has these great ideas and people owe him everything. Its nonsense. He hates buying gear to review and gets mad when he can't get free stuff. I know he now says otherwise but I know form his past.

And what crossed the line is when he talked crap about Ethan and Ka-Bar. Lots of bad stuff to say. Then he deletes those FB posts and acts like it never happened. The guy says he is never going to use another Ka-Bar becker on video again, talks bad about them, and says schrade is better. And that he is only going to use an old Camillus BK-7 cause he still likes the design.
Well, that didn't last long. He soon came to his senses and realized that Schrade is inferior and now he actually talks crap about them. But at one time, Schrade was making becker killers, his words.

He thinks his knife designs are so great and they are not. The ascetics on the knife in the videos is horrible. The guy has no talent in designing stuff. It is a botched up BK-9 blade and the grind is nothing like a bk-9. The bk-9 works so great for a reason, the grind. It cuts like a much thinner knife. His grind is nothing compared to it. I do not even want to get started on the handle design.

And yea, if I add a foot of length to any knife, its gonna chop like a beast. Crazy claims before he even had a working prototype. Said all kinds of insane stuff before he ever used it. Deep inside, I know he knows its a flop, you can even see in his videos that he isn't very excited about it anymore.

I am not gonna go into the Schrade debate, but my opinion is there knives are inferior to a lot of companies. The only knife I like by them is Brian's knife and I really wish it was made some place else. Brian actually has woods skills and knows what he is talking about so I would support his design before a guy like C_T any day.

There are so many talented people here on the becker forum alone, that have come up with great knife designs that would blow away anything CT could ever make. I can probably go thru these threads and find at least 20 beckerheads that have made or designed knives that I would actually buy. But most of them will never have a chance to get them produced. That is because the only reason the knife in the video and the other knifes by him are being made is because he has 100k youtube subscribers. His followers will buy anything he says even if it's crap. So Schrade knows he can get guys to buy it, so they said ok, we will make it. There are a lot better choices out there.

I am sure some will disagree with me, but I know lots know I am right. I don't want to talk bad about anyone, but this guy is a joke. He needs to leave Ethan alone and find another knife to use as his flagship knife. He swears he has sold like a million BK-7's for Ka-Bar. Really? Becker's sell because they are great knives and Ethan is a great person.

And that face he makes at the end of the videos just annoys the living %^*$ out of me. And the fact he gets pissed at the sounds of nature when he is filming outdoors? Really? You are outside. Enjoy the birds and wind and rain and everything else. It's like he hates nature? Don't like the airplanes flying over? Go inside and make a video then.

In closing, I am sure many will buy his knife and enjoy it. I chose not to enjoy it. haha. I am sure there are some good tidbits of info in his videos that help people get into the outdoors. Which is a good thing. I am glad so many new guys are getting into this stuff, but they need to be carful at the misinformation as well. There are tons of great you tubers, and also a handful of horrible ones. You decide for your self where he fits in. I do give him props for obtaining so many subscribers, but there are many other guys that have better info and videos with way less subs.

PS. Man it felt kinda good to vent. haha.

haha this could not have been said better!

and yes it really bums me out that he credits himself with making the bk7 a popular knife and saying he sold billions of them FOR kabar.

also I don't really care for brian's schf9 but the schf42 seems like a nice smaller recurve blade. also found out they are making a non-recurve version soon.

anyway about schrade I will say they are making a ton of effort to put their name in a good spot. not sure if its working. I really think we need companies like schrade to make cheaper knives like the schf36. some people can't or don't want to spend $80 on a bk2.

thanks for typing all that out and given us some info/history.
