I'd like the handles if they didn't look like a Cold steel folder had a baby with a Becker... and if I was bigfoot. Even Dubz or Vik could get a two handed grip on that ugly thing.

Does like to toot his own horn doesn't he? Granted, my number of knife designs is holding steady at zero, but I'm not sure taking 2 of another man's designs (BK4 & BK9) mashing them together, putting a ridiculous looking handle on it & calling it your own actually qualifies as "designing" a knife. He does seem to think he's reinvented the wheel though.

If Dex says he's a doucher, I gotta go with he's a doucher.

All I'll say as a n00b here is just from looking at that design and the company behind it:

As a company, I think Schrade does have *some* nice looking, value oriented designs - that I won't be buying - but CT's "design" is NOT one of them. Without trashing the "designer" and not ever likely to handle the knife, here's what I see that would be a no go for me. First, the handle is too long for the size of the blade. Has anyone tried to chop two handed? Difficult at best even with a proper sword. Even swords from the middle ages were wielded one handed. Second: maybe the pinkie hook at the rear of the handle would be OK, but that design mess at the guard is fugly and useless on a chopper, as the mass of the blade is trying to pull out of your hand. At least with the King you can choke up and do some fine stuff, too. Third: the blade is too short. Especially for a "chopper" with that handle. Grind needs to be higher....witness the Brute and you'll see what I mean. Finally, my thoughts on design are this: elements of the design should have a purpose, or they're just cluttering up the thing. Anyone can call themselves a "designer", but that does not make it so.....and regardless of my personal feelings about said designer, I don't care for the design of this knife, and I don't feel the need to check it out. OTOH, I held an inexpensive "Brush Demon" designed by Jerry Hossom, and even though the build quality was....inexpensive looking....the knife felt GREAT in hand and I could immediately tell the guy who designed it knew what he was doing. I know Ethan's knives go through a lot of real world testing before AND after maunufacturing.....how many protos d'ya think there were of this Schrade before it went into production, and how many people tested those prototypes? And that's all I'm saying.

No.
I am not planning on getting the Shrade schf43.

I am by no means an expert knife creator, but from a knife user, this knife just seems so wrong to me on multiple levels. Handle too big - I can see it sliding around with end curve perhaps digging into my hand, The choil seems like a pointless loss of blade edge, combined with handle that seems too big to allow you to close in on the knife for small delicate work. Large handle and shape seems like it would hard for reverse grip work using back muscle pulls with wood close into chest. Blade seems like it would feel unbalanced in the hand, despite its "three hold design" and would probably give me carpal tunnel after a good use, unlike a Becker which is comfortable using the who day. It actually looks more like a show knife for a movie than practical. Sure it maybe a good chopper, but so is my axe! It seems like a one trick pony to me - not at all what I want out of a knife for camp/bushcraft. Even if reviews show favourable (ahem), I would still never get one. Its not for me one bit. Each to their own. But this knife does have one great feature I love = the fact it re-emphasises or serves as a testament at just how great Ethan's designs, builds and steel is!! The fact that Ethan took years to design just one, shows the true love and thought gone into his work. So sorry CM101 - this isn't for me!!!

I'm not an online reviewer; so I could/would decline the offer of a free one without so much as a second thought.
My interests aren't limited to Beckers; but they don't range to whatever that is.

As far as the person - I wasn't around when he was active here. His videos don't annoy me to the same level that most YouTubers do...but, to be honest, I don't think I've ever watched one of his knife reviews. I watched a few when I was looking for packs and flashlights. It's been a long time since I've looked at anything other than flashlight videos. When I watch those, I turn the volume down because I don't care what he has to say (I just want to see how good the light is).

Oops - I lied...sort of - I watched part of one of his videos from some knife/gear show.

Ok, you guys made me curious so I had to watch the first video. I wasn't going to because quite frankly the guy always struck me as prickish, and I didn't find his videos particularly useful. In fact, the few that I've watched were somewhat awkward.
Anyhow, the thing looks like a cold steel spartan handle with a BK9 blade. It could be argued that the handle is a ripoff of several Jerry Hossom designs.
Not very original in my opinion. It's more of an amalgam of bits from different knives.

Exactly.

I'm not going to bash on this guy, but I will call this knife what it is. If I get the opportunity I will give it a fair, unbiased review from top to bottom. Including my thoughts on his conceptual design philosophy.

Form and function BUT also how a knife looks comes into play when buying a new tool.

It looks ugly and from what i can see the link between some You Tubers & companys is the free shit benefit, marketing urgh.

When I hop on YouTube I like to watch a 5 to 15 minute gear review and then put my phone away and get on with my day. If someone makes a 35 minute ax review, is there really that much to say or should he just be getting to the point?

Not to defend anyone, but what would a truly original knife look like? I'm sure that anything my mind could conceive has already been done by someone, somewhere at dome point in time.

Lastly, what don't we like about Schrade? I only knew the company existed a year or two ago. They seem to be working to please customers and keep certain price points.
