Anyone use a bandana?

A bandana is part of my EDC. I have a bunch of the classic red paisley ones, some blue ones, and some digital camo ones. I never leave the house without one folded up in my back pocket. When camping, I always bring a couple of extras.

Good for everything from blowing you nose to first aid to filtering water (definitely not in that order!).

I have the usual assortment of small, cotton bandanas, but the item that really has some potential is a 15" X 72" silk aviator scarf. I picked it up for motorcycle use, but it is pretty versatile.

I edc a bandana, it just has thousands of uses. However, I am needing to find one of a color that is in no way gang affiliated, just to be safe. I am thinking I'll get an olive drab one or somthing.

Well.... CountyComm has ACU and Digicam....

And yes I carry one all the time, very useful for any number of things.

As someone posted, Walmart has some nice cotton ones, and cheap. I also go to a fabric store, and get a bunch of whatever looks good, and cut/sew my own. Although the digicam ones sounds kind of interesting also...

I recently started the age old practice of carrying a handkerchief in my back pocket. Really handy. Could actually prove to be a lifesaver some day, who knows? There's thousands of uses for these. I don't carry anything fancy. Walmart had a baker's doz pack of these things for a few bucks. Wouldn't go anywhere without one now. Cheers.

I have two of the CountyComm ones, pretty nice for $2.
Though just a bit on the small side about 21x21" I think.
I can do a head wrap, but there isn't much extra to tie the knots.

I EDC a handkerchief or a bandana. The handkerchief is for my nicer clothes and the bandana is for jeans or shorts. Very handy.

I have the military cravat (large triangular bandana) in my pack when I am hiking. I never really use any of them for head gear, but the Recon Wrap sounds pretty neat. I'll have to check it out.

Back in my long hair hippy days (in other words, 2 years ago), I always had a bandana on. It kept my hair from blowing in my face which I absolutely hate, as well as absorbs sweat, which comes in handy because I sweat profusely.

I have one of these and love it... looks like the same thing as the Recon Wrap, though they also have models for use in the winter. Also, different patterns and color schemes than just OD green, tan, etc...

Yeah, I have a big head, so I bought a 6-pack of these: 27" x 27" ACU

I like the ACU, it reflects a lot of sun, yet the camo pattern means you don't see the sweat stains until you're real close.

I carry and use a banda everyday. But it is the small cotton type.

I have been wanting to pick up a large 3'x3' silk bandana for backpacking and hiking though.

I still haven't gotten one, but here are a few sites I saved for when I eventually do get around to ordering one:

Great links! I second the notion that silk should be used in place of cotton.

I highly recommend the sand washed silk wild rags found here:

As an earlier poster eluded to, a basic cotton "drugstore" bandana is too small and too flimsy for trail and back woods use. EDC, certainly.

Getting to the 3' size, one can fashion a splint or arm sling. Also, the more absorbent materials allow sections to be cut for field expedient bandages. I predict the WSS group can dream up a thousand more practical uses for these bandanas / wild rags.

It seems that the silk is stated to be "warm". How do you think it will work in the summer. Is silk absorbent? I have heard that wet silk increases it's strength. Maybe I saw it in a movie , wet, twisted around some jail bars to make an escape.

http://www.wholesaleforeveryone.com/category/bandanas.html this place also has winter masks and hats and the best part is they have a discount for multiple items. I carry two huge 32x32 (I think) ones in my edc bag then I have a regular sized one in my back pocket. I've used it as a bandage a few times when I didnt have a first aid kit handy and a dust mask when needed. I think it should be an almost mandatory edc item right next to a good led light and a good knife or two.

I love the recon wrap from spec-ops. Not cotton, and durable

I like cravats/bandanas for most kits. They are good for almost all injuries. splint making, shoulder sling, wound pressure, field dressing. great for sweat or to cover a sunburn.

I always carry a bandana they last longer then med cravats, though cravats unfold bigger.

I've been using plain old cheap cotton bandannas for a while now and they serve my needs just fine. I have a question about the silk ones though. . . How absorbent are they? Two of the most common things I use 'em for are to wipe the sweat off of my face, and soak in water and wrap around my neck to help stay cool. I don't have a lot of experience with silk, and I'm just wondering if it would be better, worse, or comparable to cotton for those purposes.

I always carry a hankerchief but mainly to clean my glasses. Back when I had Clyde,
someone gave me some doggiedanas which got a lot of use...

I second the Buff. I have used them for years. Sandstorms and all. But the bandana still has its place.
