Anyone use a bandana?

Well I have enjoyed this thread, thanks for the input. Some uses not mentioned to consider are: Put a weight in it and use it as a sap to defend yourself from a dog etc. Use it to conceal your hand movements if you were needing to draw something out of your pockets. If a building was burning or had collapsed, disaster senerio, I would want an air filter to keep all that "stuff" out of my lungs. Use it to tie up a bundle like a hobo, remember the old movies. Emergency butt wipe, better that a sock. Prefilter for water. Reusable handwipe. Whip it out like a towel and pop that dog in the eye to keep him back. Rip a strip out to make a wick for oil lamp. Tie a small piece on a hook to make a luer fishing. Cordage. First aid. Make slit in it for snowblind avoidance. Wet and wrap around neck to keep cool. Hot pot holder. Make charcloth out of it if cotton. Put deer scent on it and use as a drag. Gather tinder for fire as you go. Hobble a horse. Cover his eyes to calm him down. I know, I'm off today and have too much time on my hands. Regards. Put coffee or tea or herbs in it to make a brew. I better carry a dozen or so.

I'm interested to know how, exactly, you are going to hobble a horse with a bandana?

You forgot about using it as a makeshift parachute in the event you need to jump off a cliff to avoid a pack of rabid bears. :)

this is kind of like the Douglas Adams "always carry a towel" thread.
And for many of the same uses!:D

I'f it's long enough, you tie his legs. Otherwise...

Cover his eyes to calm him down.
They ain't gonna panic if their eyes are covered; kinda like the Joo-Janta 200 Peril-Sensitive sunglasses. As the brochure says:
... specially designed to help people develop a relaxed attitude to danger. At the first hint of trouble, they turn totally black and thus prevent you from seeing anything that might alarm you.

If long enough you can tie the front legs together. We use to tie the front and the back leg together with a long hobble if we wanted to slow them down in the pasture so we could catch them again easily in the morning. It doesn't take them long to get use to it and they learn to move fairly fast as they change their gate. It's what I learned to do longtime ago in New Mexico. Take it for what it's worth.

I think I would have to try and whip them into shape by giving them a good pop or two or tie the mouth shut with the bandana and ride them around after a good hobble.

All day every day I have one of several 22" square bandanas in my right rear pocket.

all the time - i prefer orange...catching/preventing feathersticks from hitting the wet ground.

Well I guess that goes to show you how useful they can be over the years..

Or the unwillingness of some to start a new thread on a topic that interests them rather than revive an archived thread with posts by members who are no longer present, if even still alive. Thread necromancy is generally frowned upon.
