For all of you who are on Facebook: had an experience with a hacker today. someone hacked the acct of a friend of my wife. Also hacked this friend's email. Contacted everyone claiming they were stranded in London after being mugged at gunpoint and needed help paying their hotel bill in order to get home. My wife got on FB and the hacker actually chatted w/ my wife on FB chat, sounded convincing. I got on and asked some security questions, that only the friend would know... of course they couldn't be answered. In the meantime, my wife called the friend in MICHIGAN and confirmed that they were not in London.

So, be careful... not that y'all aren't already a group of the populace that isn't more alert than the general sheep that mill around, but it deserves repeating every now and again, eh?

New version of an old Money Order scam that has been hitting peoples email since the days of IRC. Hacking a FB account... unlikely more then your friend used a easy to guess password. Anyways, your post is a good reminder to folks to watch their step on the social networking sites.

There has also been a fake Windows Security virus going around the social networking sites. I think we have removed 30 in the past two weeks on client machines. Some are even asking for CC info to install a program to remove the "suspect files."

Be careful out there.

Yep... saw that one... particularly virulent.

Kinda weird, GFI and every other scanner I have seen catchs that "security update" and the "your facebook account password" one. But your right, another thing to look out for.

Had one half a year ago. Scary stuff - the first virus that drove me to slight despair. I did manage to remove it, but can't really remember how I even got to using the browser again, looking for answers. There's a lot to be found on this virus, including the free tools to remove it.

not east coast, but an hour east of st. louis and we're looking at up to 5 inches after midnight tonight.

we're supposed to get 2-4", but then it wasn't supposed to start until late this afternoon and I woke up to a white yard & car and wet dogs.

snow is good!
I would be a very happy camper if we got 6-8" in this storm.
a: I could try out my new pac boots while blading the drive.
b: I could go try building a snow covered/debris shelter.

I can't wait for the snow!!! We've already got 8 inches and I'm hearing anything from 6"-2 feet this weekend. I'm going skiing so bring on the snow!!

another whole day of homework. this is so discouraging.

Hang in there Mrs S, at least there is something good at the end of the tunnel. Could be like me, have a college degree and then realize you could have made more money (and gotten more respect!) doing almost anything. But it's not forever!

I'm gone from 6 am to 6 pm, get home and do work to make up for the money I'm missing since we took our pay cut/hour reduction (due to economy) then start working on course materials for my future CCW classes so I can do something I enjoy (what a novel idea). Look at the clock go "oh $hit!", go to bed.

Rinse and repeat.
