Well I got an early Christmas present today. I'm now an uncle to a niece, I got my nephew mean as heck, lets see if I can't go 2 for 2 :D.

Congrats. My brother and his wife had their first in July. A little girl. Now begins the payback for him trying to help my son be naughty all these years. There will no lack of references to stripper poles. I feel sorry for my sister in law for her what her ignorant husband started when my son was born.

Merry Christmas.

algebra final is DONE! :D

and no grading curves. i don't agree with them either. while i'm typically at the top of the curve i get pissed off about the people that don't do the work and still pass b/c of a curve.

Amen! If you are not smart enough to make the grade on your own, then you should fail. Passing someone who is not smart enough to pass dumbs the whole system. To Hell with this "curve" grading system and anyone who supports such a system. It is Socialistic and Altruistic at best.

Agreed.

I had a science teacher who was fresh out of school and she graded on a curve because she didn't know the material herself and we were suffering for it, the top 2 kids in my school were in class with me and they were failing because the teacher just couldn't teach, I don't think it was completly her fault just lack of experience.

Wait a minute, not trying to be an asshole but I'm gonna call you on the above paragraph. At first you said she didnt know the material then you say it's not her fault. Well, who's fault is it that she was a dumbass who didn't learn her material before presenting it? What you just typed is the VERY problem that exists in our school systems and the very reason we are using a curve method to cover up for being a dumbass. We don't want to put the blame where it's due or come out and say it like it really is: in many cases we have dumbasses teaching dumbasses!

Okay, so today I came home from class and found this. A little background, my roommate has advised me several times that I should piss sitting down for "cleanliness reasons." And if I *have* to piss standing up, I must always remember to clean up after myself and put the seat down.

WHAT THE FUCK????

Seriously.

I'm not entirely convinced my roommate is actually a man any longer.

It's getting to the point where either I move, or shoot him (her?) for the good of mankind.

(end rant)

I quit teaching (high school and Junior College) because I wasn't allowed to "straight grade".
I was even told one of my tests was unfair because more than half the class flunked it -- all of the questions came out of the homework and the answers were in the back of the textbook.

Who in their right mind would allow an inexperienced to teach students? What's worse is the students cutting her slack for being inexperienced and not knowing the material. That's suicidal. And we wonder why we are raising a bunch of idiots?!! That would be like someone taking a survival class from us and we try to teach them something we have no experience in and they go out and kill themselevs because of bad instruction. "But wait", you might say! "Learning a classroom subject does not have the same implication of life and death as learning survival skills!" Really?

What I mean is it wasn't her fault she tried to teach but was mostly learning how to actualy teach with Jr/Sr in high school. she was fired 2 yrs after I graduated for growing pot in the class room.

Bingo!

Honestly I don't believe in the "curve" system that teachers use, this is my first class with a teacher using it. The teacher sucks at teaching. I'm passing so I'm not really relying on the curve thing, but it'll make my GPA go up because there are a few dumbasses in that class.

Why does that not surprise me? That pretty much sums up everything I was talking about. But with that said, it WAS INDEED her fault for not knowing how to teach. What did she go to college for? To learn how to grow pot? I don't cut dumabasses any slack and I don't want them breathing my air.

Well, I think that is wrong to think that your GPA will go up because of others being dumbasses. You should worry only about what you can achieve by pushing your own limits, not what others can "give" you.

And let me add to that: if you think it's cool that you will increase your GPA simply because there are dumbasses that cause it, then you will always be only one-step ahead of the dumbasses. It's a piss-poor attitude in my opinion. I wouldn't want you working for me or in my shop.

I agree. I don't think teachers should use curves, it doesn't make sense to me (especially in college). From what I've heard curves normally drop off the last few % in the class, even if they're passing, and increase the overall % for the rest and that seems stupid to me. With college being so frick'n expensive they shouldn't have grading systems like that.
