ya 34 states. I personally like SIG alot. Why not consider revolvers as well?

I tend to think of revolvers as being too thick for carry, though I don't have any experience, so what do I know? I'd also prefer to have more than 5-6 rounds of ammo. I figure if I'm going to ever be in the situation where I need to defend myself or those I love, I'm not doing it half-ass.

I do realize there are some 8 shot revolvers, but do they come in respectable calibers?

well see it from my point of view, you join today and have a lot of posts in ESEE, from my past experience, that is a dead ringer for a person post rackin,

i dont do that kinda stuff, and im not keyed up.

It was a mistake, it happens sometimes.

You do seem a bit "keyed" up.

I suppose it would beat being a cheese eating surrender frog though, no?

:D

That made me laugh friend, assuming you live in America (judging by the American attitude that some exhibit) you should be a bit more grateful of the French participation within your American Revolution from Great Britain. :D

many subcompact pistols only carry 6 rounds.
.357 is perfectly respectable in a Ruger SP101, S&W J or K frames, older Rossi's, etc...
a S&W 686 (6, 7, or 8 shot)comes in .357 as well, but at that point you've lost a lot of your concealability due to the thickness of the cylinder.
That said, older L & N frame pistols w/4" bbl are very nice shooters - but again, are not pocket pistols.

I carry a revolver every day, everywhere. Usually, it is a .45 Colt. The thick cylinder doesn't make it any less concealable than a SIG 228 or any of a number of popular carry guns. I carry at 4:00 in an OWB holster I made, and never have trouble concealing under just a t-shirt. It's more about the belt and holster than the gun. The bottom line is to carry what you shoot well, and practice practice practice.

sweet! can you post a pic of the holster?

I don't have a picture of it, but it is patterned after Bob Mernickle's PS6 series. It has a relatively flat back, and the front piece conforms to the gun. It rides high and very tight to my body. It took me three prototypes before I got the dimensions just right, but I'm very happy with it.

I find that CCW revolvers are more accurate, powerful, reliable and offer a fuller grip than most CCW semi autos. And S&W is making 9 shot revolvers nowadays. I'd rather take a guy down with one .357mag or .44 than 3 rounds of 9mm... with three times as much energy transfer, what's the difference between a 6 round cylinder and a 18 round magazine? As long as you are good with shot placement 6 rounds of .357mag should be able to solve any domestic problem. If not, a CCW semi auto isn't going to change the outcome.

I don't carry a revolver IWB but, I do carry a M&P340 357 in my front right pocket. Usually toss a speedstrip in my back left pocket as well. I COULD carry a bigger gun with more rounds but I hate being uncomfortable while driving or whatnot. Plus at work the J frame is invisible in my front pocket. I use a DeSantis Nemesis holster. It works pretty good.

I have a Colt Delta Elite coming to me tomorrow and I think I might try carrying it IWB. Though it will be hard to just toss the J frame in the pocket and haul butt.

Here's a pic of my main carry.

Wow thanks again for all the replies.

I will take revolvers into consideration while choosing a defensive weapon. The benefits of a revolver are obviously 100% reliability and less to worry about as far as safeties or mechanisms.
I'm a pretty skinny guy at 5'10" 140# so thats why I feel a slim pistol might be better than a revolver. Also I'd most likely carry IWB more than pocket-carry or OWB.

10mm for the win! I'd love a review of the Delta Elite once you get the chance to shoot it. I personally carry a Taurus 651 (I'm a poor 21 year old)

I'm 5'10" and about 160# so our build isn't much different. The heat and humidity is starting to crank up here in MS and so IWB is gonna be a pain especially with a fullsize and full weight 1911. In a cooler part of the country it wouldn't be so bad I'm sure.

Sure thing.

Man that sure is pertty.

Thanks much :)

hammerless revolvers are just wrong

Eh, maybe so. But its a must for pocket carry for me. That hammer gets caught inside the pocket 75% of the time. I can reach into my pocket and have my hammerless snubbie out in a second or two.
All of my non carry revolvers are DA/SA though.

The Taurus 651's design is pretty sick, it's got a concealed hammer that won't snag on your pocket but still operates like a DA/SA revolver. It makes a whole lot of sense. I'm sure it's still a superb CCW firearm, it would just be something I'd have to get used to.

I really do want to try a S&W snubnose for carry. Just to see if I like it. I had a Ruger LCR for about 2 weeks.

Pretty hard kicking 11 rounds of .40 out of my pocket for 5 rounds of .38+p or even 357 (which doesnt exactly shine out of a 1.5 inch barrel.)

Not to mention the loaded mag in my other pocket with 9,10, or 15 rounds.

I like the Kahr pm9. fits in the front right pocket in a cheapo pocket holster perfect. 6+1 in the pipe. unloaded weighs 14 ounces and has real sights.

The thing I like about the snubbie is even if I want to try to carry IWB I could probably do that and keep the snubbie in my front pocket for craps and giggles.
