that sucks man, at least your Dad got one, and come on Payette, save the jerkit for W&C

I wasn't tryin to be an asshole, there's just not alot goin on compared to a fishing trip-even if you only caught one fish. As of yesterday I've got three nice steelhead in the freezer, I'm pretty stoked-which reminds me, I need to google some recipes right now! :o

w00t I'm alive and survived my 21st bday! I had an awesome weekend and went downtown friday night after having a cookout with friends and listening to some Sinatra with a cigar. Saturday I went to another cookout and then had a "barrel 'o fun" at my place.

P.s. Don't start drinking at 3pm and then start taking shots :barf::barf::barf: :D

hey, folks, I'm still alive ...

got lots of work and more driving to doctors to do ...
and just in that heap of stuff, my grandma suffered a heart attack - from which she has recovered as good as you can expect of a 83 year old.

I'm still waiting for my diagnosis - doctors are pretty sure I have some form of rheumatism, which is a bit of a blow, but I still hope that once it is clear what form exactly it is, we can at least slow it down considerably.
Meanwhile I try to stay off serious painkillers - though I don't succeed every day, but as long as it is once a fortnight, it is ok.

Still losing weight though - better for my joints anyway. But most sports is ruled out now, so it is very slow, but still going ...

And I'm spending all the time I can get outside - so that is good.

I've managed to stay painkiller free other than Maloxicam/Mobic and ibuprophen. Rheumatoid Arthiritis sucks, until you start getting joints replaced you can look forward to each and every future morning being more and more painful as your life goes on. Mine started with minor creaks and general aches a year ago and now it's to the point where I have to work them every morning just to be able to get some sort of range of motion to function. My right knee has been particularly bad as of late, by the end of the day it's so stiff I can't bend it at all. I can't really speedskate or mountain bike or do any of that stuff anymore. I picked up whitewater kayaking because it only uses your upper body, which is my least affected area so far. I have two doctors' appointments a week for blood work and my steroids dose. I'm pretty good at sucking up the pain for the most part but the creakyness and range of motion get to you, plus the constant pain really makes me frustrated as the day wears on. I also find myself alot more tired at the end of the day just trying to suck it up. Enjoy the good days is all I can really tell ya, make the most of what you've still got.

precisely what I intend on doing.
I've seen an x-ray of my grandma's shoulder - what should be a smooth round joint is an irregular slab of bone ... and it seems like that's where I'm heading to. With a little luck I got the form my dad has, and that can be slowed down.

Got my new boots in today. Danner TFX's (26010). Lightweight at 53oz and made for temperate weather. They are pretty darn comfy right out of the box. My first "military" style boot I've ever bought.

I also like that they are a mojave olive color rather than tan or sage, neither of which I am a big fan of. Though I would wear them if its all they had.

Great job Verm, you got a pair of really nice looking boots! Now put them to the field test!

Haha, yeah the field test of walking around an office and SOMETIMES outside. :D

I hope this weekend I can get outside and do something fun.

2 exams in the morning and then I am DONE with my junior year of Undergrad. Just cracked open a Monster energy drink so it looks like I'm pulling an all nighter.

I have Business Law and Policy at 0745 followed by Management Science (Business IT) at 1105.

Wish me luck! Yes, it is currently 0425 in the morning

Ugh got through business law. That was the easy exam. Too bad I second guessed myself about "the duty of a boardmember to the stock holders". I originally had "fidicuary duty" but then for some reason changed to statutory duty. WTF!

BIT is gonna suck. I'm on nothing but caffeine now and will crash hard.

Sorry I haven't been posting much lately. It is finals time and the this is my first semester in college. Needless to say I'm pretty busy. Any way the semester is ending in the next couple of weeks and I will be back to annoying the hell out of all you on a more regular basis.

Just BOUGHT fatwood. Unholy, I know. If any of you have a Menard's nearby, next to the wood stoves, etc. in the plumbing department, they have 4 lb. bags of fatwood sticks for $4. I bought 2. That oughta be enough fatwood for a while. I'd have burned more than $8 in gas going to my collecting spot. :D

Not a bad deal at all if you also factor in what your time is worth, and the amount of time it would have taken you to process all that wood down to your preferred size, etc, if you harvested it yourself.
I don't think we have Menard's stores here in Ontario but I have seen fatwood for sale in the camping section of Canadian Tire stores. Thanks for the info nonetheless!

Cheers!

Made my first firesteel fire this afternoon :)
This is also the first time i ever used a firesteel. So i started practicing on the terrace. I can make a fire with kindling wood and an old newspaper, or a new one, the age of the news doesnt reakly matter :p. But this was seriously different...
I only had some drywood, which even when shaved wouldnt catch a spark. Hell it took me a while to even get some decent sparks of the bloody steel....
Anyway after an hour of shaving wood, trying, shaving, cursing etc. i found some old cotton t-shirt. Cut some piece of with the Izula and off i went. And HOORAY it caught sparks. Threw some shavings and curls on it burned as if i stood in front the gates of hell itself. :D

All this took about an hour, but the feeling was good. Going to try it again tomorrow and see if i can get to make some charcloth.
