charcloth's pretty easy to make. i just put some denim in an altoids tin and set it in a fire. let it smoke for a good long while, and you'll have some nice firestarter... don't open it right away though... let it cool.

you could try aluminum foil (extra thick one, or double) as a lid ...

we got soggy weather ... wet and cold ... far too cold for may ...

Tell me about it......
Its been raining all night and the wood that was outside was wet. The inner part was just barely dry. Took a piece of cotton shirt and started whacking at the firesteel. I seriously hate the included striker...... It barely produced sparks. Turned to the izula and it rained down sparks. To spare izzy i found an old small hacksaw that worked just as good. Got fire in about 15 minutes now. Its getting better, just need to make a decent portable striker.

That one looks good. I have the Coghlans firesteel. Similair to the LightMyFire Army. Aprox the same striker. I'd rather toss in a river and use my knife.

I tried the LMF Army rod and the included striker actually works good. Although similar to the Coghlans , the latter just doesnt work for me.

Keep experimenting - the more you practise the easier you find something you can use if you really need fire.

Anyone here ever owned or know anything about Hideaway knives? A buddy of mine was given one & it looks pretty cool. He had never heard of them so he asked me. I have not heard of them so now I'm asking you guys. Here is a link to the site. Thanks
