Apocalypse knife?

Okay so I don't actually believe in 2012, a zombie takeover, etc. but I saw a show last night about some people that were very "prepared" for just about anything. I got thinking and thought this would be a fun post. So since this is the end of the world as we know it, your knife (or knives) need to cover:

1. self defense- whether it's zombies, marauders, or something even worse, you will need a knife to fend them off
2. scavenging- cutting into boxes, breaking windows, etc. were all gonna need some supplies right? and if our favorite store isn't open... well, we will make due with a knife
3.Basic survival- same stuff as if you were lost in the woods, shoot it's the apocalypse, you might be lost in the woods!
4.Ergonomics- I'm not talking so much about the handle, but more about weight. When you go out to do whatever you have to do, your gonna need to be very selective. You can't bring ten pounds of knives and wear all of them on your belt.
5.durability- you might have to sharpen with just a regular rock, because your probably not gonna grab a sharpener as the nukes are falling, but it also is gonna go through a lot of abuse

So tell me what knife or knives will you bring. Also, what else is in your bug-out-bag?

My choice would be a Ka-Bar and an ESEE 5 on my belt. Then maybe a small hatchet in my pack. Other item in my BOB would be some sort of fire (matches, lighter, etc.), metal bowl to boil water in, also some sort of seed so I could grow food.

HI Khukuri for one, great all-around big knife, and it comes with a smaller knife for more precise tasks. Probably a folding knife, either my Ritter Grip, or my FFG S30V Manix 2. I'd probably carry a hawk and a mid-length knife as well for a while. If it's too heavy, I can drop things. Depending on the situation, more weapons might be preferable to fewer.

Of what I now own, Junglas. If I didn't own anything and had to get one, Junglas. ;)

Knives are part of a collective of tools. If you are on foot, your tools might need double duty. My ESEE5 would be the hard use tool. It helps to be sharp, but it's a window breaker, prybar, hammer, wood splitter, E&E tool, and whatever else it needs to be.
Some other smaller EDC fixed blade would be for cleaning game, food prep, and all the normal knife duties, my Fiddleback EDC might be the one I'd grab.
A larger blade, Rodent Waki, machete, golok or other chopper, limb remover, fighting knife would also be something I'd want. Mostly this is when bullets aren't around and I've got to defend myself. A larger prybar, baseball bat, or club would also be great for this niche.

I've never been part of an Apocalypse, yet, and would have to improvise if needed. Machete and a pocket knife, or ESEE5 and my 9mm, Waki and a small fixed blade, or a gorilla bar and a shotgun. Lots of options out there, if you can used them well, and carry the weight.

I you have to hunker down, or have a vehicle, go big. Take over a sporting goods store, or a wal-mart. Or steal a diesel truck, gas will run out, and diesel engines are fewer, so mabey the fuel will still be around to be found.

I couldn´t decide... KaBar USMC Fighting Knife oder Glock Feldmesser 78... So I would take both....

Kind regards...

1) If we are going to be breaking into stores...I'm breaking into one that has guns in it.
2, 3) Are we in the city or in the woods here? I don't need to break glass in the woods, and if I'm in the woods when the apocalypse happens I already have a woods knife on me. If I'm in a city with stores that I need to break into, a prybar/Stanley FUBAR would be more useful. In this case...hardware store window meets rock gets me one.
4) Excellent point. I want a light knife that gets me back to where my big knives are. Which I guess is no different than any other, ordinary day.
5) If you have a bug out bag....why wouldn't your sharpening stuff be in it?

I suggest spending much more time thinking about the impending zombie apocalypse before posing questions like this one! :D

I would definitely have my ar15 and 1911 for my main defense. Knives would probably be the ontario afghan and a protech doru. Hopefully that stuff would by me enough time to get to the guy taking over a sporting goods store haha.

It's all about a well stocked bugout bag.

1) A Machete, Waki, Short Sword, or a Tomahawk for self defense, but that's only when I run out of 12 ga. shells, 7.62 rounds, .40 Cal rounds, and .45 ACP rounds. I don't carry all of that in the bugout bag, but that is what will be available at the safehold.
2) I have a glassbreaker in my bugout bag, but I'm sure a rock will make a sufficient substitute.
3) I have a Kershaw Outcast in the bag as well as a Buck Nighthawk, Anza 3", and a couple of different folders. I also have a Tomahawk in the bag. This should cover most if not all of my "survival" needs.
4) My bugout bag fits comfortably on my back and I've even worn it just moving about the house to see if it takes too much out of me due to the weight. So far, so good.
5) I have sharpeners in my bugout bag so no need to sharpen with a rock.

I'd rather be prepared and never need to use anything I have ready rather than rushing around at the last minute of the Apocolypse looking for things I may need to survive.

Tactical wheelbarrow, debarked chihuahua, can of spam, p-38 can opener, 12-pack toilet paper, Case Peanut and a Smatchet.

Tomahawk of your choice. My choice is either my new CS TrenchHawk or my Spike Hawk.
Becker blades come to mind. Cant go wrong with any of em. My BK9 & BK2 come to mind.
A good ole Ontario US machete.
& yeah, a towel, to wipe off the mess that all of the above will make.

The squirting flower---not so much !!! LOL at least for me.
