April 2020 Buck of the Month - Released

842 Sprint Ops Pro featuring Cerakote coated S35VN blade, black burlap Micarta handle, with black Cerakote coated hardware and deep carry pocket clip.

Thank you very much for the update. Last month BOTM - not for me and in my opinion overpriced for 12C27 steel. This months - not for me either. I don't like the look of Burlap micarta - looks cheap to me. But next month will be a winner ! : )

I bet it looks much better in person.

I have to admit I do like the looks of the 112 pictured above - with the red spacers to accentuate the micarta ^ But, on the 112 the 'weave' of the burlap micarta looks more uniform (straight rows) and tighter (smaller 'weave').

Whereas the BOTM looks more like the 'weave' on the Buck 841 Sprint Pro (larger weave, random - cheap looking, to me). Buck 841 Sprint Pro done in S30V with brown burlap micarta.

I really wasn't expecting Buck to release a BotM this month with all the craziness going on. I'm glad they were able to get it made! After owning a Sprint, this model isn't really for me, but man that black burlap Micarta looks good. I hope we see it on more knives soon!

When it comes to the Buck of the Months, I gotta say lately I've been a bit disappointed lately though. I thought they were a little more exclusive.

For instance... I purchased the December 2018 Buck of the Month 112. It featured S30V steel, nickel-silver bolsters, and Crelicam Ebony. Only 250 were made.

Now I've come to find out that you can make that exact same knife; 112, s30v, nickel-silver bosters, and ebony in the custom store for cheaper than the BotM cost. That kind of bums me out.

not for me. I got the copper one and I'm good with that. the blade shape isnt my favorite. for those who get post pics for us. thanks much.

I like the materials including the random Burlap micarta and the coated blade doesn’t bother me if it’s similar to the Alaskan guide knives, they are really nice. However I’m more drawn to the vantage series and have a few so I think I’ll pass.

I just noticed the blade shape looks like a modified extreme drop point. I’d rather have a clip point or at least a normal drop point.

The Alaskan Guide models are TiNi coated while this has a Cerakote coating (Buck recently invested in an in-house Cerakote setup). TiNi should be considerably more durable (and a lot less matte looking). Cerakote sure has a lot of fun colors though. :)

I really like the burlap micarta, and s35v makes a great blade.
This isn't much more money than the 841, and I think this is worth the extra money as its a better knife. The price is actually within reason.
But I agree with Les, I too prefer the Vantage.....

I came close to grabbing the copper one, but I have other things in the fire so....

If JB gets one I'll look at Mak's pics.

I don't know if the stated options and availability are true or not (I personally hope it is Not true). But if true - Buck should not, at a later date, sell the Exact same knife in the custom shop as listed on the COA of the BOTM knife.

The COA says only a certain number of that knife was produced. Available in the "exclusive" BOTM - that is what you paid for - exclusivity (and of course the actual knife).

If Buck is then producing the same knife, at a later date, in the custom shop - in quantity - this is a disservice to the buyer / collector of the COA knife. Because as far as I know, you can keep ordering knives in the custom shop until your money runs out. Buck isn't going to run out of knives. And that would make the BOTM knife you paid for no longer exclusive / limited to the produced number stated on the COA.

Can anyone else confirm if this is true ? Has Buck done this with other BOTM knives ?

I don't think Buck did anything on purpose. Given the options in the custom shop I'm sure it was bound to happen once or twice.
You cannot return a custom shop knife, maybe you could return a BOM if it really upset you?

Did Buck add the s30v drop point to the custom shop that made that possible?

I did note that knife resold pretty quick.

You can pretty easily confirm it yourself. Here's the link to create a custom Buck 112.

https://www.buckknives.com/custom-knife/customizable-112-ranger-knife/CKS112/

All of the options for the 2018 Buck of the Month are there. Satin S30V steel, nickel-silver bolsters, and Crelicam ebony scales... But maybe there is something I'm missing?

Comes out to $101.50 from the custom shop. I think I paid $112 for the BotM.

Don't get me wrong... I'm not all fired up about this or anything. I was just a bit bummed to find it out.
