April 2025 BOTM - 104 Compadre Camp Knife

Well...... after thinking about it over night and explaining to my wife why I need 3 Compadres I have one on order. Can someone throw rope down that Buck rabbit hole so I can try to pull myself out?

Well, you certainly aren't alone in that Buck rabbit hole, rope? No, an escalator is needed to get everyone out of that hole :D . I'm sure glad that I don't live anywhere near the factory and the store, but then... moving out of California to Idaho (no, I'm not bringing California politics with me, I'm running from them) would save me a lot with our sky high prices and then I could do frequent visit to the store. 😁

So why are the rivets brass and why are they PVD coated? Is it only for corrosion resistance? They kind of stick out in a way that I am not sure is pleasant. Would some other color rivets have looked better? Could they have hidden the rivets? Would no rivets not be strong enough? I am hoping people will answer these riveting questions.

I see what you did there : )

I actually like the rivets, especially with the color of the sheath. The email I got said the hardware was bronze (as opposed to brass). I am guess the PVD coating is to change the color (to look like copper) or to keep the bronze from forming a patina.

Well if I lived next to the Buck plant, I would be divorced and filing for bankruptcy.

I'll be interested to see how this shakes out when they arrive. The way I read this was that the PVD color is bronze. I agree that when looking at the pictures from Buck, it looks more copper, but I still took it to mean they were referring to the coating color and not the type of metal fastener.

Hmmm... You might be right after re-reading I am unsure.

Fresh out of the mailbox. I wasn't expecting the slight palm swell. I think the micarta slabs are pretty much perfect for the 104, and the G10 isn't an improvement. I'm not saying that it's inferior in any way, but I prefer the softness of the micarta.

That aside, the palm swell is absolutely well thought out and placed. This is a fantastic knife. Glad I picked this one up.

I was hoping to see some pictures today.
Looks good. 👍

My 104 3v is my go to knife when working in the yard.
I'm a micarta fan as well.
I look forward to getting mine, but it's gonna be tough for me to leave that 3v in the house.

But I do love a clip point.
😎

I am glad to hear you are enjoying the palm swell. We went through quite a few variations before we landed on that shape.

I have not been able to put this knife down. It kind of feels like the GCK series knives in hand, which I am a big fan of. Also, the bead blasting seems more refined from what I am used to seeing/feeling. Seems bead blasting in the past was more rough/pitted. At first glance I would think this was a coated blade. I'm glad its not.

Great pictures. I didn't like the way the g10 handles looked in the pictures from Buck so I passed. My mistake. The knife looks great.

The 104 is a great knife. This 104 is even better. The palm swell was an unexpected improvement. This knife is fantastic and will be getting a lot of my attention. Put it to work on day one.
