I am jonesing for a Hinderer 3.5 thumbstud probably one of the new XM-18. But the only place I can find one occasionally is here on the exchange. I just saw one go for $700.00. Is that the rough price range these are in? I ask that because there are no dealers who have them - so a dealer price is not established - the dealer cant even get them.
The only place to get them is on the secondary market here, and its a dogpile to get one.

What is the price range for one of these? I dont how to find one for sale. I am stunned at the market price for these - is that usual?

Terry, I myself don't own a Hinderer just yet. I'm a lefty and hopefully Rick will make one for us in our right minds some day. :D To get back to your question i think the dealers when they have them or have had them in the past. Were getting around 350.00 to 400.00 for the run of the mill XM-18 if you can call them that.

Now the custom ground blades are about twice that. This has been my experience from just watching the different sales on dealers sights and the Ex. But it seems like these guys selling them here and there are slowly raising their prices.

I'm not sure if that's what they've got in them and are trying to recoup their monies. Or if there is alot of gouging and fishing going on. My advice would be to just keep looking and searching different dealers, different sites or on the ex. Not everyone is asking 700.00 for a standard XM-18.

As a matter of fact i seen one go for around 525.00 the other day on the Ex. So just be patient and good hunting you should luck out evevtually.

That one for $700 was a regular production and a rip-off, you can get one between $500 and $600 on the aftermarket, less from a good dealer.
A custom can go as high as $1000 or even more depending on the grind style.
There are several dealers who carry them on a first-come basis, but they usually last a few minutes. Not all dealers price them the same, either.

I would love to get one someday, but I dont have the time to sit on the net 24/7 and wait for one. I am also not going to pay anywhere near $700 for one either. People can sell them for what they want, but I think its taking advantage to sell them for $700+. Heck, there was one on ebay that went for $860 a couple months ago and it sold. I want one, but I am not going to pay twice as much for a normal production xm-18. The knife cant be any better than any of my sebenzas, my umnumzaan or my strider SMF and all of them were under $400. I am always looking to get on a list fo one, but can never seem to find one. I looked at all the dealers and none have a list. Its fine if you get on a list and have to wait 2 years, Heck Randalls waiting list is 3-4 years.....lol..... All I want is a plain jane stone washed flipper preferbly the 3 1/2" inch one so it fits my hands better and handle color doesnt matter, though orange would be great for hunting and such. One can dream right !!!

It doesn't really matter how long you've been on the forum, just getting lucky when one comes up on the market place. This is often the case with me, but because of the time differences, many nice knives put up on the market place are already sold when I get to see them, as they are put up at 2 in the morning for me, which may be only 10 in the morning for the seller, or 3 in the afternoon.

I also don't have a spare 1600 bucks that I can spend on knives

I'm so ticked off. I had to do something with the family and just checked the For Sale section when I walked in and a fella was selling 3 XM-18's and some guy bought all 3 before I could post. By minutes!

Rob is helping to procure (1) for my son who's an 8 year Army grunt, platoon Sgt, and has just finished 3 tours in Iraq. He's going to be going back to HI to train and re-deploy in late Sept. or Oct. He'll be sending us back some shots of him in his combat gear - with his new XM-18 which is great. He'll treasure it cuz Daddy bought it for him.

What bugged me was that I wanted one for myself too and some members and non-members are pigs IMO, like stories I hear of guys taking their whole families to get more chances in raffles. Or when the occasional sale like today comes up for (3), I would have bought one and let somebody else have a shot. Some of them are sold at insane mark-ups like others mentioned.

It just leaves a bad taste in my mouth. (Its not Rick's fault though.) I wish he'd install MAP pricing like other big compainies (Benchmade, Air Tasers come to mind).

I guess the closest I'll ever get to owning a new Hinderer will be the ZT collaboration 0550. </Rant>

I dont fault Rick at all, he can only make them so fast. I understand he hand makes every screw and such which is mighty time consuming. I just wish he could get some help so they can get produced much faster than they are being made right now. I just want one for myself to carry and use because I like the design and from what I hear of it being a high quality knife. Plus I like the flipper design. I love my ZT301 flipper. Maybe someday, they will become readily available. Thats the ONLY thing that is going to bring the prices down.

+1  Me ether, as stated, I just got a 301 from Kershawguy, my first one and I really dig the flipper - what a tank huh? :) Not pretty like Rick's knives - unless you're into tiger stripes though.

Yeah, the 301 is a tank. I carry it often when I am not carrying my umnumzaan. I got mine from kershawguy, awsome service from him. I know I wanna get the new ZT/Hinderer knife coming out. It will have to hold me over until the day I can get an xm-18.

It takes patience and some luck. I just picked up a lightly used 3 1/2" Gen 3 flipper with a Hinderer tool and a spare scale for $510 shipped. :D

I am the pig that bought the 3 XM's on Sunday. I could explain it but I won't. CZIV, you are welcome to pick either of the 2 3 1/2" XM's at the price in the thread. Regards, Brad Rosenthal

Very decent of you, Brad.
I am sure CZIV did not mean pig in a bad way.:D
In front of a sweet deal like that I know I would definitely have done the same.
Enjoy the XMs.

I apologize ptradeco. :foot: I had the sentance formed in my mind about people "hogging up" opportunities at the raffles and somehow, typing in a hurry as always, I typed that out in it's present form. It was rude and uncalled for. I'm very sorry.

If I may suggest, besides the occasional offerings here on the X by owners of the XM-18, on occasion, a purveyor who frequents JerzeeDevil will offer up XM-18s over there for under $500 (IIRC) when they are made available to him. He usually has multiples in both sizes and usually gets a mix of flippers and non-flippers. Just another place to look if your really serious.

Thanks Chris. I'm a member but never felt at home like I do here. Maybe I'll pay a visit.
