aquiring a Hinderer knife

Another $700 one gets sold. Ridiculous! It better come with a hooker for that much. :jerkit:

I'm thoroughly intrigued by this knife. I'm looking hard for a 3'' xm-18 (added the "xm-18" so I didn't introduce any penis jokes)...BUT there just no way in h3ll it's worth $700....not even the exclusivity cool factor.

And I say this because I've payed $700+ for blades before BUT they were limited production...NO MORE WERE MADE!!! There will be more xm-18's made...

What is it they say is born every minute?

God bless the free market and supply & demand tho!!! :D

Yep, I thought it over and passed on ptradeco's kind offer, because after "the fever" left I could see that the others were way overpriced IMHO, and although I was going to pull the trigger on one of the 3.5" models - I believe it was beadblast not stonewash which is what I'd want if I had my druthers.

I'm glad now thinking back, because the collaboration knife will be ariving soon and that's a little more of a sane amount of money for my budget. I'm really digging my new ZT 0301 I got last week. I can only imagine that Rick has really made a nice knife with ZT due to his sterling reputation and workmanship. ZT's too. Both = hard use knives. :)

Good night! 3 more going at $700 a pop. Some kids are going to have major buyer's remorse when the next batch comes out and I pick mine up for like $475. LOL! ;)

They are selling too.

I paid a bit of a premium for my XM-18 but they seem to sell for a lot less (usually) on other knife forums.

its price is 385$$ but poeple tend to try and get more for them and bost up the prices a few bills. Go to chris reeve knives.com and then look at their trade shows some of them may sell them for the original price.

I wish I knew where you were buying Sidman. I'd pay that much but I've since (as I posted above) pretty well shined off the idea of buying one of Rick's excellent folders for $6 / $700 clams. That's not right.

I also think some of the higher prices are sellers simply trying to get back what they paid for their xm-18.

Like say for example Sidman you bought it for $475. If you did sell it, would you list it as $385? Not many people would. You'd probably list it at $475 - $500, or higher, I'm not sure how much you would want for it.

The first one did not sell at $700 but it seems others have jumped on the markup bandwagon pretty quick.
$700 is insane.

It is insane, on the other hand, to quote Les Robertson, nobody but a gun to the buyer's head...

Nice try.

(that is knife-flipping and you know it. I'd sell mine at a minor loss because I used it in some capacity and didn't want to keep it. ...and you would too right? Since you didn't do anything to improve its value...)

its only flipping if you buy with the specific intent to resell at a profit. and typically a pattern must be established to prove this.

buying a knife and deciding to sell it, even for a profit, is not necessarily flipping.

No, sorry I didn't know that was called knife flipping, I didn't even know that term existed, and I didn't mean to come across as saying that. Sorry if you thought I was calling you a knife flipper, and that you'd sell your knife at a crazy price, just almost everyone who is selling a xm18 seems to jack the price up, except for a few people who sell it at what they paid for or less, which is what should happen on every xm18 sale IMO.

I think that the high prices are ridiculous, and like you, I wouldn't sell a xm-18 for 700 bucks when I had only paid $385 - $450 for it (this is as high as I'd pay for an xm18, and therefore sell it for), especially after I had used it.

Not trying to start an argument, just wanted to clear up what I meant.

The XM-18 is a good folder of that there is no doubt. I must admit that it is a little frustrating to see them sold for $600-$700. It is even more frustrating that I had to pay $600 for mine, and I will not do that again. If I decide to sell mine it will be sold for less than what I paid just out of principle. I am not hurting for money and a few extra dollars on a sale isn’t going to make me rich.

It would have been nice to be able to order directly and I kick myself in the rear-end for not doing so when I had the chance a few years ago. I just never really had the extra funds to put aside for it and it kept slipping by. I was one of the dummies that messaged Rob a while back and thought I could still buy directly…I understand why they decided to go through a dealer network though.

Hopefully this will clear up when, or if, the supply increases. Right now, when there are relatively few on the market and demand is high, only the market will decide what is fair. One thing is for certain, if Rick can increase his production without losing any quality, prices will normalize. Until then - hello $700 XM's. For me, I'll just patiently wait:yawn:

+1

I'm drooling all over the XM's coming thru the forums, but at the end of the day we're still just talking about an edged tool... If the prices never come down to something at least approaching a reasonable level, then I for one will never own a Hinderer XM.

I paid $600 for mine and have absolutely zero regrets. However, mine has a textured CF scale, which goes for $100 from Rick, so not too bad of a deal I guess.

$700+ starts getting into the custom XM-18 area and those would be worth it. IMO, A plain ole everyday XM-18 is not worth $700+. I suspect some of these buyers don't realize that not all XM-18's are customs. A little research and a lot of patience can do wonders for your bank account.

And if you then include exchange rates for overseas buyers, like USD to AUD, a standard $385 xm18, turns out to cost about 450, and the 700 ones, are about 830 aud, which is even further out of my price range. :(

One day...
