Arashi no Umi Fighter

Just to add to the mix of eminent appreciators; I too am blown away. I Love both styles and feel as though I have never seen a better blending of the two.

Most excellent Stuart.

I'd like to say thank you again for kind response to this piece. This is the kind of piece that had me second guessing almost every move along the way. I think I drew up the final drawing in Sept. and got stuck on the blade for over a month. I've had to shelve this more than once trying to figure out some of the small details and I really appreciate that you all can see the little bits that make up this whole. Even the knots on the ito were researched to be traditional for this style of wrap.

So again, thanks for the responses and for those so kind as to mention this over in the best bowie section, I am honoured to even be considered.

Well, The knife arrived today and I have to say, as nice as it looks in the pictures.....

It is even better in person ! :D

Stuart, you have a great artistic sense and do superb quality work

honored to own this beauty!

Bill

I forgot that Stuart sent me photos of the final stand -

another ingenious and stylish element

The stand is a simple but perfectly elegant display and a great finishing touch to a terrific package. Congrats my friend.

P.S. - that hamon is outrageous.

Congratulations Bill. It would probably take me an hour and a half to come up with a coherent paragraph detailing all the things I like about your/Stuart's beautiful piece. I'll just say, in my eyes, it is beautiful perfection - knife, sheath, and stand. Mike

Thats absolutely awesome!! The knife is amazing but the sheath is the cream on top...

Thanks for bumping this one--love this blade shape and the leather work is a piece of art in itself. Fun to admire again.

Bill, you're a lucky guy to own this one. I've got a "simple" bush sword/machete from Stuart in my collection that still makes me giddy every time I pick it up, so I can only imagine how you feel when you heft this one.

It's good to see an excellent display stand for a superb knife and a brilliant sheath. It just rounds out the entire package and gives it a complete presence.

Exceptional, Stuart. No other way to describe it.

That is a truly beautiful piece of work and quite likely the best looking"fusion" piece I have ever seen. The use of the Hokusai wave theme really puts it above many knives I've seen that simply mix typical "Japanese" features. One thing if I may, is that while "Arashi no Umi" would translate as "A stormy Sea", it sounds, with all due respect, like third grader Japanese. "Umi Arashi" meaning "Sea Storm" would also work but suffer a similar effect. The word for a Storm at Sea is "Shike" pronounced "she-kay". Considering the level of the knife I tend to thing this level of name would be more appropriate.
My two cents for what it's worth.

Great Knife. I really like it all, especially the way you incorporated the ito wrap onto the wooden handle. The hamon is gorgeous. The sheath matches perfectly. A wonderful package.

I know the owner has to be happy, happy, happy.
