I've heard that the pocket knives they sell are total crap. But I was thinking about buying a set of 200 and selling them on eBay. Would it be possible to make a good profit doing this? They're real cheap per knife in a large set, but I imagine if the quality is terrible they won't sell regardless of price. here's the set i'm looking at:

You heard right.

Don't embarrass yourself by inflicting those knife-shaped objects on a customer or a friend. The really bad ones will fold up or fall apart on them. Dangerous. Up close they don't even look good.

There once was a saying " you can't polish a turd " modern technology has changed that. Polished turds.:barf:

I work late and always come home tired.. that damn little puke face :barf: gets me every time..I love it!

Oh and the frost line up... pass

If your really thinking about buying knives at inflated retail prices on T.V. and then selling them on Ebay for a profit...your logic is seriously flawed. You need to give the ebay shopper a tad bit more credit. Besides look how many cheap crappy knives are on ebay already. you would be competeting against that. I seriously doubt any one would buy or bid on a frost knife. I would steer clear of this venture..very few people actually make money on knives...ask around here...:D

my .02 cents..

Yes, they really are that bad. If you have any give them to your worst enemies; they will fold up when they least expect it and cut their fingers.

Just think about it. If these knives and sword can be sold for just over a dollar a piece, the cost of manufacture is not likely over 40 cents each. That includes all tins, boxes, display cases and literature.

He he he!

Methinks this is a 'new' member who just rang the doorbell after leaving the flaming bag of doggie poo on the front porch.

Hook line & sinker.... :p ;)

Coop

Please forgive me if I'm wrong.

Yes!!!! they really are "that bad" Stay away from them at all cost! Don't even think of trying to sell them on Ebay because there are tens of thousands of them on there and if you'll notice they usually go off without any bids! The Rule of thumb is always remember,,, you get what you pay for! ,,,VWB.

Who was it, Parker or Frost who used to be early purveyors of quality knives?

I know I sold a Parker/Frost Trapper and turned a nice profit. didn't get rich but made a 20% profit.:D

BTW they are that bad.

I suspect you may have hit the nail on the head there Mr. Coop. :)

well they do come with a lifetime warranty (so they say). but that video where the knife show guy (shawn i think his name is) breaks the katana by putting a little pressure on it and stabs himself is prbly the best indiction of how terrible these knives really are. thing is, i'm looking for an ebay buisness to do part time and i really like knives and selling them would be easy for me. Is there another distributor that sells large quantities of knives of much better quality that won't cut the fingers off the people who buy them? another thing is you're all knife experts, but the average person on ebay who just wants a cheap pocket knife won't really know the difference between crap and quality.

it's kind of sick in a way - the knife show. they prey on the unemployed, the drunks, the single men (i fall under at least one of these categories) who stay up all night and have nothing better to do than watch the cutlery corner and they think they're getting a deal because they advertise so late but the only reason they're on so late is because that's the only time they can advertise for hours at a time.

I hang my head in shame! I actually bought some of those crappy knives and I threw them in the trash. As others have stated already, I wouldn't give them to my worst enemy. :thumbdn:

If I were going to sell on Ebay the very least I would sell would be the Smith & Wesson or Schrade line. Some of them are decent knives and you can pick them up at Smoky Mtn. Knife Works for around $8.99 each. I see some of these on the Bay from 14.99 to 19.99 making you at least 50% profit margin, but again, I see a lot of these go off with no bids. But at least if you do sell one you wont feel too ashamed because they do seem to hold fairly well with moderat use and probably wont close up and cut someones fingers off. ,,,VWB.

Before you get into the business of selling on ebay, study everything you can on their rules, on how it works, and on what it costs. It isn't free, you do pay fees to sell there, you do have to pay shipping to your customers. If you sell a $10 knife for $15 you haven't made $5 profit.

It also does take time, some expertise, and effort to write up the ebay ad and attach a decent picture. There's a lot of competition, and the more professional your presentation, the better the chance that customers will look long enough to maybe buy.

did you buy them for yourself or to sell?

im familar with ebay and all of their b/s fees, but im fairly good at selling and dodging a lot of them. i just need a good distributor - i think with all of these comments there's no way im buying frost knives, but how about this add:
http://cgi.liquidation.com/auction/view?id=1561935&convertTo=USD

seems to be much better quality than the frost knives

The ones he's showing I've seen before -- Franklin Mint. Maybe not exactly the same, but I guess equal quality. You won't sell them to many people here since they aren't the greatest users, but they are solid -- some of them are almost too heavy! -- and real pretty with all the pictures and colors.

There are a lot of people out there who collect this sort of stuff -- designed-to-be-memorabilia or collectibles. And at least the product is nothing to be ashamed of. Don't come back and hit me if they aren't quite what they seem, though! :p

Edit: incidentally, at the bottom he says "Total Quantity of 500 includes some knife related products as listed in manifest." That could mean 250 knives and 250 boxes. Caveat emptor -- ask him first, before you bid.

yes.

think some more.

Would it be possible to make a good profit doing this?

no. you will take a loss.

They're real cheap per knife in a large set, but I imagine if the quality is terrible they won't sell regardless of price.

if they sell, it will be for less than you paid, once shipping is factored in, you will probably take a substantial relative loss.

there's a reason they can sell that crap so cheap.

If you check the manifest, it does look like there is 500 knives. Having checked out the photos, they all look icky. The one you get 17 dozen of looks really awful. The bowies with all the holes look like Frost copies. Who would copy a Frost knife? There are lots of gerber copies and a knife with the Emerson wave feature. Wouldn't touch any of them with a ten foot pole.
