Are Knife/Gun people Dog people too?

Well, I finally did it.

Nope, didn't break down and shell out the bucks for a Sebenza, but I got a dog.

She is a custom collaboration between a lab and a german shepherd. She is a limited edition -- only 7 made! The blades, such as they are, are serrated in a jagged, toothy manner, and easily cut through rope, couch cushions, rawhide chews, and my shirt sleeves. She also doubles as a lawn mine deployment unit, though this type of biological warfare is frowned upon by the UN.

Seriously, though, her name is Maudie and she is wonderful. Not sure how I lived without a dog for so long. She's 14.5 pounds and 11 weeks old. All ears and feet!

Not very tactical though -- hides between my feet when scared.

Dogs, knives, guns, and flashlights -- what else is there?

Enjoy the puppy hood Clay. It is a very special time in what should turn out to be a great relationship for you your family and the dog. As with a Lansky Sharpener - Patience and consistancy will pay off. All you have to add to it is love

I must have something in common with both Dakota and Lucky Dog because my first Beagle (of two) is named Waldo...hence the forum name. He was a hand me down from the local county dog catcher and already named when I got him. As much as he runs off after cats, squirrels and rabbits it brings new meaning to the term "Where's Waldo"! Luckily I have good neighbors who will drive him home when he gets out...

Take Care,
Waldo

Female German Shepard. Constant companion, or was...., but knew over a dozen distinct commands and had three combination commands down. Trained in German, traveled well and was not concerned about gun fire. Guns = trip to country side. Xmas Eve last, major coronary... A good dog is time intensive. A responsible owner will give that time.

Good topic. I think your on to something. I'm a big collector of all three. Guns, Kinves, and four dogs. I have a Rotti(great animal), a Golden Retriever(bit of an idiot, but he means well), a Husky/Wolf(more domesticated Husky than wolf..very docile), and the spoiled pit/terrior(no pitbull in this dog!..smartest dog I've ever had!) Did I mention cats, I have about 20 of them too. All the animals get along great!

I've got to put my two cents in on Timbershepherds. I purchased a protection trained, male Timbershepherd from LRRP K-9 in Aiken SC. (They hold a trademark on the name "Timbershepherd") These dogs have very little Timberwolf in them and are mostly German Shepherd. They should NOT, repeat, NOT be confused with "wolf-hybrids" (50% wolf/50% german shepherd or other dog). Wolf-hybrids are notorious for being unpredictable and would be poor choices for a family dog. Timbershepherds, on the other hand, were bred to be family guardians. That is, PREDICTABLE and DEPENDABLE. VERY DIFFERENT!

I am extremely happy with my dog and did not want the Timbershepherd confused with 50/50 hybrids. I was told that wolf-hybrids of any % will probably be illegal soon because of irresponsible breeders trying to pass them off as protection dogs. Often with tragic results.

I thought it was a triad; Guns, Knives and Dogs.

Around other parts of the net, I use a handle of Flapjack in tribute to one of the finest yellow labs I ever raised. He was a duck hunting fool. I had to put him outside in order to clean the shotgun. If he saw me pull it out of the gun cabinet, he went totaly bullistic until he was in the back of the truck.

My hunting buddies still tell stories about him and his mother. I don't think I will ever own another lab that will measure up to Flapjack and his mom Lady. My buddy Louie can't even mention Lady without misting up. In some ways, its almost like that first girl friend that you never forget. I miss both Flap and Lady. (A tip of the glass to good friends long gone and memories that will never fade.) I guess that's why Gene Hill will always be one of my favorite authors; Mostly Tail Feathers and Tears and Laughter are must reads for hunting dog owners.

Today, we have a cattle dog; a welsh corgie pembroke. Sam's a loud mouthed little sucker. But he does keep the twins corraled. Chases a tennis ball almost as good as the labs did.
