Are Spyder Holes Liabilities?

I've always thought it'd be pretty cool if Spyderco put the hole cutout from your knife in with your knife. Naturally it wouldn't be the exact one from your knife, but one the same size. But I'm guessing they're recycled. Dunno for sure.

Did I mention I like spydie holes ;)

The knife that got me into knife collecting had a spydie hole but was not a spyderco, lol. BM AFCK. Still have it.

I have used and abused spydercos for well over 20 years and the hole has been the least of my worries. I cannot believe that there is such a long thread for such a non issue.

What a waist of keyboard typing, but here I go as well.

If you look at the steel cross section of any folding knife, the amount of least metal is at the part where the pivot is. And all folding knives have this. Here is a spydie picture showing the amount of metal at the spydie hole and the amount of metal at the pivot. If the HT is bad and you have stress risers due to holes, notches or any direction changes in the steel, the knife will fail in many potential areas not just the spydie hole. The entire argument is moot.
