Wow, did I just entered into W&C?
Here we go again.I, for one, enjoy Benchmade's new policy of MAP pricing.
If I want to shop around for the lowest price I get waste time calling or emailing to find the price and then repeat for each dealer I look at. It's really a great way to blow an hour trying to find the best prices for a few different models. Something that once took mere minutes now takes hours.
I also like how certain variants of their models are only available at brick and mortar stores. Nothing like paying MSRP + 20% for a plain edge black-coated blade or a special handle color.
I'm so glad all their knives are made in the USA. Those Harley and HK knives they make in China/Taiwan obviously don't count, even though they're prominently featured on the Benchmade homepage.
Yay!
I think people should not define themselves by a brand. It's bad for the head
I have knives from both companies, they both have their good points and their faults. I've seen poorly made or designed knives from both firms, as well as good designs and exceptional fit/finish. Anybody who says otherwise is either a Fanboy or Hater.
Buy the knife not the company...unless you care about repairs. It is a well known fact that Benchmade stocks parts for their knives way past their production dates. Two years ago, someone I know got a blade replaced (for $25 including shipping) on a Benchmade knife that had been out of production for almost 10 years. Spyderco freely admits they only have simple parts (screws or clips), or parts for current US production. Spyderco won't touch your knife for repair for anything less than $25. To me that's the biggest discriminator between the two firms.
And BTW people, what happened to just liking good knives, thats what brings us here.
While I don't love quite all knives, I don't see many things with an edge that I don't like at least a little bit(except the mall ninja stuff of course).
The craziest thing about all this is that we tend to look for what separates us rather than what connects us. This goes for everything in life....but here at bladeforums we all love knives yet some what to divide the flock by the insignificant rather than acknowledging the significant.
