Are you a Benchmade or a Spyderco type of person?

Listen pal, I attempted to respond to several different people post that were directed at all in one post of my own.
Read more and you might understand why I type what I typed. As for you post, I'm not going to bother reading the rest of it.

Whats the problem with you Sigg:confused:....I take it you had a bad experience and got your feeling hurt by someone at spyderco.
If thats not it, just never buy a spyderco again. You look like an ass with an agenda with all the crap your spewing.

They are both good knives. Just step back, and calm down a bit please.

Look, I apoogize to anyone (well, most) who I may have offended in this thread.
The thing is simple, After over ten years of owning and using folders of all types, I find Benchmade makes the best in that price range.
On bladeforums, for every thread about benchmade, it generally get people either complaing about the knife, or saying to get this or that Spyderco instead.
This is way I consider this the second Spyderco forum. Maybe it's not even that, but more of an anti Benchmade forum at time.
I feel no need to go further into detail about why I like Benchmade over Spyderco. But it's because:
They feel more solid and are
Thier locks are better without a doubt
Thier blades aren't as weak
They make knives in America
They have treated me better "by far" with CS issues
They don't bring in and discontinue a plethora of knives each year

I could go on, but I'm trying to aplease the gent who asker for specifics.

To me liner-locks are shit, and I don't care if they're custom, Strider, or anyone elses.

In the end, Im not truly a diehard Benchmade fan. I'm usually broke, so I buy the best knife I can for my money. That still usually means a Benchmade.

ANd again, I have no personal issue with Sal. But I do feel any company that turns out so many different knives, pertiularly in limit numbers, is after the money. ANd when they tell you they don'y have parts to fix your knife because it's been dicontinued, well, that's BS.
Companies (like Spyderco) who do that should change thier warrantee to "Garanteed untill discontinued," There is nothing lifetime about the Spyderco warantee
.
Just to continue, I also feel the way they do these sprint runs is BS. Yeah, sell a few hundred off real quick so that the rest of use who actually wanted one get to pay double pr triple to some jerk who bought it just to resell.

Oh well. I'll say it again, I appologize to you people seeing me as a shit starter or troll. Use whatever knife you like. I for one will use mine with pride.

My first "real" knife was the Benchmade 940 and whenever my family went out to buy knives (on vacation) we pretty much always came out with Benchmades. So the fog of my younger years give me a special appreciation for Benchmade. (That and the knives tend to kick ass.)
My friend is very fond of Spyderco and I picked up my first 4 Spydercos fairly recently. Not disappointed at all; they're just different.

Siggyhk,

It's okay that you prefer banchmade, just as it's okay that I prefer Spyderco. You call people spyderco zombies because they have the same passion as you but for another company. Someone could attempt to insult you by calling you a Benchmade zombie which implies you are a dead non thinking yes man that can't think for himself. I assume you would think that is a bit unfair just as the people you attempt to insult.

People like what they like for their own reasons....who are we to tell them they are wrong or worse yet insult them because of their passion?

Darn, I can't believe this s#it is still going...

Siggy, you ARE a clown, but the sad kind, you are a sad sad clown.
"liner locks are all =shit" means you've never had a Spyderco Military (or any other good liner lock Spydie), while you claim to have had over a dozen Spyderco knives.
If you dont care about pocket clip positioning, ergos, etc, then you're either a liar, or just a degraded knife-nut.
You're claim, that you could surpass most here with your "grammatical" skills, is absolutely cr@p. You seem rather illiterate, just by the way you express your opinion. Eg: "I feel sorry for people who trust liner locks".

Man, you're probably lying aobut EVERYTHING. You're 12 YO, and you just bought your first BM, you're so excited, that you can't stop trolling, and lying about your experience with knives. Or indeed you are just too dense of a person.
With every post of yours (and I've read it all) rationality seems to be more and more absent. I can't believe some of the guys here are wasting their time on explaining ANYTHING to you.

You got to correct your sleazy ways son.

I am a Spydie guy.. I only own 4.. I have owned a few more and ended up selling them for various reasons..
If you put 5 Benchmades in front of me, I could not name them by model number.
This does not mean anything other than I have not spent the time to learn and study them.. They look like fine knives.. I had one quality issue with a Leafstorm and returned it to Spyderco and they sent me a new one promptly.
I have a 600.00 Dozier folder on my belt (right now) and it is a fine folder.. But the Gayle Bradley, and the CF Native are unreal knives for the money. The off shore issue is ridiculous to me in 2010.. The World is FLAT and people that don't start thinking that way need to wake up. IMHO
Bottom line: I am a Spydie guy REGARDLESS of where they are made..

The craziest thing about all this is that we tend to look for what separates us rather than what connects us. This goes for everything in life....but here at bladeforums we all love knives yet some what to divide the flock by the insignificant rather than acknowledging the significant.

I, for one, enjoy Benchmade's new policy of MAP pricing.

If I want to shop around for the lowest price I get waste time calling or emailing to find the price and then repeat for each dealer I look at. It's really a great way to blow an hour trying to find the best prices for a few different models. Something that once took mere minutes now takes hours.

I also like how certain variants of their models are only available at brick and mortar stores. Nothing like paying MSRP + 20% for a plain edge black-coated blade or a special handle color. :D

I'm so glad all their knives are made in the USA. Those Harley and HK knives they make in China/Taiwan obviously don't count, even though they're prominently featured on the Benchmade homepage.

Yay!

Here we go again.

I think people should not define themselves by a brand. It's bad for the head :)

I have knives from both companies, they both have their good points and their faults. I've seen poorly made or designed knives from both firms, as well as good designs and exceptional fit/finish. Anybody who says otherwise is either a Fanboy or Hater.

Buy the knife not the company...unless you care about repairs. It is a well known fact that Benchmade stocks parts for their knives way past their production dates. Two years ago, someone I know got a blade replaced (for $25 including shipping) on a Benchmade knife that had been out of production for almost 10 years. Spyderco freely admits they only have simple parts (screws or clips), or parts for current US production. Spyderco won't touch your knife for repair for anything less than $25. To me that's the biggest discriminator between the two firms.

Typical interwebz...

Although I like both companies, I don't like to be a "die-hard" fan of either. Like he ^ said, it's bad for your head :)

This is a very fair criticism of Spyderco, and it's a side effect of having such a small business. If the "big man" has time to talk to you, chances are he doesn't have the time to keep piles and piles of parts sitting around.

It's nothing short of amazing BM is able to keep parts piled up with how many models they discontinue.

And BTW people, what happened to just liking good knives, thats what brings us here.
While I don't love quite all knives, I don't see many things with an edge that I don't like at least a little bit(except the mall ninja stuff of course).

Yeah, thats what I was trying to say....but you say it much better:thumbup::p

To the OP...if we can't talk about what we like or don't about a brand without dissing companys, company owners, or others, could you please just lock your thread.
I really don't think you started it for this(some have thought so), but most knew what this would turn into. Now you know, and are the only one that can close it(other than a Mod).

I'm more of a Kershaw person.

Spyderco and Benchmade have some nice designs, but nothing that really hits it out of the park for me.
