Are you a knife collector, or user.

I classify myself as a user, as everything I own gets used. At one time I had a bunch of Coopers, and Cooper-Sampson Fixed Blades I bought in the 1970's. Most of the collection cost about $55.00-$125.00. In the early 2000's I sold them all off with the cheapie going for $700.00.

Today I keep nothing like a safe queen as I said I use my knives, rotating between five or six for EDC.

User. Many people would cringe at this.

I paid $850 for my grail fixed blade. It would be a waste of money not to use it.

Both. I use everything I have, but I have far, far more than I need. If we didn't have at least a little of the collector bug in us we wouldn't have a rotation or anything like it. We probably wouldn't have any knives that were at all redundant.

Same here... I own almost 20 knives.

I'm a user, but unfortunately, I am a big accumulator. My wife keeps reminding me. But I enjoy stuff and knives are part of the stuff. I have a few that I will not use; so does that make me a collector? I don't really show my knives to anyone other than perhaps the one I am using. Never sold a knife; gave a few away. Probably need to re-think the selling knives mental block. Starting to think about getting rid of a few of my old Randall's since I have never used any of these for cutting (even paper). I keep thinking selling a couple would easily pay the mortgage for a month. Thinking along the same lines with certain firearms.

It's a hobby. Just have fun with it.

I consider myself a user, with a big collection. I am always on the search for the perfect knife but along the way I've come across a few knives and decide that it is too nice or rare to use so it goes in the safe. I guess it could work out well because I have 2 knives that I paid $20 apiece for a few years ago and I see them going for over $500 now so im glad I didn't use the crap out of them. But when I bought them, they were already 40 plus years old and I was planning to use them but decided that these particular knives are 40 plus years old, I'm better off using something newer.

I am both. I have several knives I use or carry regularly, and plenty of others I don't. I just like having 'em. I do what I want, and am not out to impress others.

I'm both, but there's only one knife that I haven't used at all, like not even cut paper with, which is my MK2 Jereboam (I use my Shadow III instead, since it didn't come with a box or paperwork). I actually feel bad about it, I'm fine with using some of my knives less, for lighter duty, if they are rare/collectible, but to not use one at all seems silly, which is why I've been thinking of selling it.

I collect users. Each knife I have purchased was for an intended application. That application did not include cold storage, but alas we can only use our knives one at a time, so some of my acquisitions are regretfully neglected. [emoji27]

I am a true Both. I have a few that are "users" & they do the heavy lifting. I carry all of the knives I own, because that's my preferred means of showing off my collection, & while being carried, any of them will be tasked with light duty, but many of my knives will never be subjected to anything beyond light use.

I treat my "collector" knives with kid gloves, even though they're all very capable of massive amounts of work, I want to keep certain knives looking like new. When I get a scratch on a blade that I don't want a scratch on, I'll fix it....same with nice wood scales. I enjoy the finishing work/upkeep on my non-users, and I enjoy them being as close to pristine as possible. I know the cool thing to say is that I don't care, I'll do anything with any of my knives....but for me, that just isn't close to being the case, because I'm a knife user and a knife collector, and that's ok. Because I'm good enough, I'm smart enough, and.....

All users, except one. I have a Glenn Hornby custom. I bought it many years ago, when I was about 12 years old. He was my uncle. He is deceased, and I've never used that knife.

I found abother as a back up, but I let my brother have that one so he would have a hunter from our uncle. (He had a little bird and trout that was passed on by grandpa).

I'd put myself somewhere in the middle. I carry/use everything in my small collection, but I work a job and live a lifestyle where I don't need to be using or even carrying a knife all the time. I wish I had more opportunities to use them!

User and low level accumulator in the sense that I have 40 knives but most are worth $20-40 each. I'd like to be a collector but I don't the extra income to support it really. I limit myself to a strict budget on most things and knives are way down on the priority list now. Matter of fact, I haven't bought a knife in well over a year.
