Are you a knife collector, or user.

User, if a knife isn't carried (and used) for one month, it is either next on the list or looking to be swapped out or sold.

I use all of my knives except the SD dedicated ones.

I want them as sharp, functional, clean and prepared as possible should the time to use them ever arise.
Hope not!!

All my other folders are used daily, not abused, but used. With Multitools and Fixed blades I have absolutely no mercy, though. I actually like them better looking beat up, scratched and heavily used!

Don't try to force me into some category. Both! A knife I own and haven't used is a knife that I have not had the chance to use because I own and use too many other knives.

I have a collection of knives that I use. :)
Some of them get used more than others, but none are entirely off limits.

I still consider it a collection also though.

Accumulator, Collector, and User. :D

By the numbers:

1% User (~5 knives dedicated for Using)
40% Collector (around 200 knives kept in specific Collections)
59% Accumulator (approx 300 Accumulated knives)

User and collector. There are certain knives I just like to collect that I probably will never use, such as a traditional doctors slipjoint with spatula. I do have 4 or 5 knives in my EDC rotation and over the course of a year I will probably carry 10 to 15 or more different knives. Some of those may only carried for a day or two...

Low-level accumulator with a focus on using. I have sought out a few pieces that appealed to me for many reasons, none of them for any sort of value, perceived collectibility etc. I never saw hard-ware items, tools, knives at baseball cards.

Well I'm probably a Hoarder, and user. I use my fixed blades a lot more than my folders, I'm looking at 17 folders so far, though almost everyone of them, goes into rotation depending on what mood I'm in. I ordered a Busse AK47 that I'll probably never use, but intend to during some fantasy outbreak of you know what.

I bet the AK47 would be a blast to use disposing of leftover pumpkins after Halloween.

Bit of an accumulator with collecting tendencies, but always a user. At least, when I actually encounter something to use a knife on these days!

Both. I use everything I have, but I have far, far more than I need. If we didn't have at least a little of the collector bug in us we wouldn't have a rotation or anything like it. We probably wouldn't have any knives that were at all redundant.

This.

I only have a small accumulation of roughly a dozen knives.

Five are totally redundant and fill the same niche as a main carry knife. 3 1/2" -4" blade, black G10, USA made. The only differences are lock, steel type, and brand.

I could very well be fine for the rest of my life with any one of these five.

The rest I justify to myself as task specific knives and get carried as a second knife. [emoji4]

I , too , am both a user and collector. I have a few that are strictly collection pieces. But most of my knives are users. Although my fave EDC's vary in the rotation. I go through phases.

I have a collection of users...I've thinned out and sold the ones I never used when I needed $$ over the winter lay off. Still in search of the perfect knife as well....I guess I like the 4-5" blade range.

I like knives. And I like different knives for different reasons.

Some of my knives get used hard, from cutting to prying to chiseling, and anything else I need to do that I think they can handle.

And some of my knives never get used, but I value them just the same.

I have daggers and switchblades that I have no practical use for other than to admire them and enjoy that I own them because I think they're cool.

And among my "users", I have more than I could ever possibly need. So most of them spend most of their time not being used.

I don't define my interest in knives by using such labels as "user" or "collector", or any other one word term. I'm just a guy who likes knives.

If you like knives you tend to buy knives. The first few are always users. Then you accumulate a few more. Soon, you have accumulated a collection. There are only so many knives that a person can use, so eventully you either become a collector, a dealer, or lose interest in the hobby.
