Are you getting rid of your 21 to get the 25?

The only one I may let go is my large insingo. That will leave an original pivot s30v Zaan, large and small Classic, and a small insingo. All users too. Oh and I still will have a mnandi. The 25 is going to ba a great addition.

I want a large Insingo w/micarta inlays and dbl silver thumbstuds. Where's the salivating smiley when you need it?

:D

I really like the new 25 and will be getting one in the future. It combines many of the features I'm looking for in a folder. I've never been a fan of the Classic/21 and this knife is enough of a departure from the Classic/21 to really appeal to me. I love the fact that it is at least as stout as the Umnumzaan, while still being more plain in its looks. It's a winner to me!

I did the opposite (kinda): I bought a large 21 this summer just in case they stopped producing them when they started selling the 25. I might be interested in a 25 down the road, but right now I like what the 21 offers.

I'm not going to get rid of a 21 for a 25, but at some point I will buy a 25. I really want a small version of it.

I'm very curious to see one in person, read reviews, etc. As a lefty I probably won't have the option to buy one for a while, anyway. I know the steel subject has been discussed at length, but personally I'd prefer to see upgrades in that area rather than improvements in the pivot, lockup and handle shape.

I was thinking of getting rid of one of my Lrg Micarta 21's but I think I have decided against that:thumbup: I don't want to regret my decision so I will just probly wait till I have the cash. Hopefully the call doesn't come before the money:eek:

The 25 is certainly an excellent folder! Putting it side by side with my 21 is a tough choice! Personally I welcome a slightly tougher knife. The jury is out for how much if at all tougher it is though! The blade stock is a tad thicker but the grind on mine is every bit as thin as my 21s. The tip is actually ground thinner!

My 25 will almost definitely kick another knife out of my rotation though I haven't carried it yet. It may be my Lg. 21 that goes. It may be my Shirogorov (..though probably not. It's a finer knife than any CRK). It will definitely not be my SnG!

For kicks. Pros over the 21 thus far:
1. Wicked strong detent
2. Slightly thicker + slightly narrower handle is more comfy!
3. Potentially beefier
4. Ceramic lock interface (YMMV?)
5. Though I wasnt stoked by pics. In hand it looks a little classier without the locator & lanyard holes. (YMMV)
6. Smarter lock geometry. If you take a close look at the 25 you'll notice that the lock is now cut out at a slightly downward angle. The locked blade tang is trying to push back and up. The lockbar is now angled for more resistance?

There are plenty of pros for the 21 as well! Either way, B/S/T & have fun with the hobby!

I would like to own the 25 down the road eventually, but it won't be any time soon. However, I wonder if it will go through the same type of small changes (variations) that the Umnumzaan has gone through. Will Chris figure out a way where he won't need the notch in the blade? Will he figure out a way to change the screws to be able to take down with just one tool like before? Will he add the lanyard back?

Just some of the questions that have come up for me.

I put my 21 up for sale. But after watching BBQ BOY video (thanks for the video man!!!) I dunno anymore. I like the looks of my 21 more.

Too bad you can't just swap out blade shapes, cause that is really the only thing I would change....

There is no way I'm getting rid of my 21's or Regulars. Why would anyone do that? The 21 and Regular are still incredible knives, equally incredible to the 25.

I just got my small and large 21's fairly recently and theyre not going anywhere. I'm rarely a first adapter for anything anymore having been burned. I'll wait till the final verdict is out... Not to mention I'd probably wait for a discounted one here on the boards!

I'm retired army and then USG for a while, out on full disability. Disability and liking knives - talk about irony. I'd PM you but I don't have privileges. Anyway, don't want to derail this excellent thread.

Small changes in the way of engineering and usability enhancements? Count on it. This is a central theme of Chris's -- put out a product, gather feedback from manufacturing and customers, enhance the product, gather feedback, enhance, gather feedback, enhance, etc. These continuous improvement cycles happen for the life of the his products. This behavior is as opposed to other manufacturers that are determined to put out a bunch of new models every year, at the expense of optimizing existing products. Love it.

Not me. I'm sticking with my 21. Many of the "improvements" on the 25 have turned me off. I don't need that thick of a blade on a folder, 1/8" on the 21 is perfect. I don't need an oversized pivot, I couldn't break the 21's pivot if I tried. With the oversized pivot comes a different screw size. Not only do I find it unattractive, but you now need two tools to break it down. No pivot bushing seems like a step backward, but the jury is still out on that one. I very much dislike finger cutouts. I want a full range of movement on the handle. And the new design in general is less sleek than the 21. The 21 is very similar to the original P sebenza, and that's the way I like it.
Nicely said.

My large 21 and Insingo are not going anywhere. I will eventually pick up a 25 but I would like to handle one in person when my local shop gets them in before I go and jump on one.

I plan on replacing my work EDC Umnumzaan with a 25 next year when the fates allow. I have spent three years with my S30V Umnumzaan, spent ten with a BG-42 Large Regular Sebenza before that. I think the S35VN Sebenza 25 is simply the next logical step.

The beauty of the sebenza, to me, is in the simplicity of the design and the craftsmanship. The new design
trays a bit from the simplicity. Not saying it isn't a great knife, nor am I saying I wouldn't like one given the chance to give one a test drive
But I am saying I think I will be buying a 21 before a 25 when I'm in the market again.
