Are you getting rid of your 21 to get the 25?

I hope to get a 25 soon, but I'll be keeping my 21 and still wishing for an oldie with BG42.

Aside from it being a rare L/H 21, I will never part with the last issue of the bushing pivot. I spent some effort getting the lock bar pressure backed off to REALLY smooth out & lighten up the deployment & rid the knife of a terrible stick on the lock face.(it's now got early lockup @ 40%). Now I got myself a Large Sebbie slicer that can't be beat. ;)

I was admiring my large 21 micarta inlay. It's finally broken in after almost a year (guessing) but it's pleasing to look at and stropping has kept it's mini convex edge like a razor. The inlays have really kept the knife from getting all dinged up too.

I love the bushing system. I don't really like to shell out big $$ for a handle with finger cut-outs in the handle like the 25 has. I think this large 21 will be my last Sebenza (barring loss or unforeseen circumstances). :)

FWIW: I own a pile of Large Classics and Large 21's. I bought a 25 recently and sold it off the same day it arrived. For me it was not a good fit in my hands. It's a truly awesome knife and I think they will sell boatloads of them. Stout, well thought out, and the small details in the fit and finish are really impressive. For me, it just didn't fit my hands well with the smaller handle and extra finger grooves. So no, I won't sell any 21's to get a 25. I'll revisit the 25 again when they get to doing Inlays, Damascus, Annuals and Small versions. I think the extra girth that inlays add would make the knife a good fit for me in the future. Again, very impressive knife, but the current iteration just didn't sit in my hand well. Quality is at or better than many of the Large Sebenzas I've owned.

I'm a fan of big beefy blades, Strider, Hinderer, etc.. But I like like the 21 just fine and I'll be keeping it.

I may get one some day, but I prefer the small & the Mnandi so it's unlikely I will get a large 25.

For me, it just didn't fit my hands well with the smaller handle and extra finger grooves.

Thats the main reason I'll be keeping mine, and won't be getting a 25. I like a straight handle, or one with only an index finger cutout. I've had a few knives with more than a single index finger cutout, and sold them all. Not knocking the 25, but that's a feature I don't care for in a knife.

Interesting to see that many of you dislike the finger cutouts. thats accually the thing that made me want one :) the 21 is very ergonomic but when i first saw the 25 i just felt that this one would melt in your hand. and it really does :)
i get the question if you look at it at a economical perspective. sell 1 knife get 1 knife type of deal. but to sell the 21 thinking the 25 is going to replace it maybe it will maybe not (kicked all my knives out of the rotation for sure), i really dont think you would be happy with that choice and take it out on the 25, becouse the knife isent magical :) these cant be compared, biggest thing they got in common is the Sebenza name in my eyes. so if you need to sell a knife to get funds for the 25 make sure you handle it first. for you that can fund it, this one is the next step of CRK why not be a part of it ;) i do get that more than a few people here have been carrying their Sebenzas for 10+ years and thats awesome. but that also gives people a bit of tunnel vision. "why change perfection" then i answer "perfection can change" if you think about it the 25 might be the knife that breaks that trend and you carry that one for the next 10+ years :) you never know, dont knock it untill u tried it you just might love it as much as i do :)

Not me. I'm sticking with my 21. Many of the "improvements" on the 25 have turned me off. I don't need that thick of a blade on a folder, 1/8" on the 21 is perfect. I don't need an oversized pivot, I couldn't break the 21's pivot if I tried. With the oversized pivot comes a different screw size. Not only do I find it unattractive, but you now need two tools to break it down. No pivot bushing seems like a step backward, but the jury is still out on that one. I very much dislike finger cutouts. I want a full range of movement on the handle. And the new design in general is less sleek than the 21. The 21 is very similar to the original P sebenza, and that's the way I like it.

Agreed, if anything, I want a couple of 21s before they're gone :(

I'm realizing that the more fitting title to this thread would be: "Are you getting rid of your Umnumzaan to get the 25?"

:D

^^^ That would be more likely for me, but I really like the swedge on the zaan, so probably not.

Slowing down, then. There used to be that many or more on a per-day basis around the holidays and shortly after the 25s were available from a few vendors. :D

Happy to see that people are sensible enough not to let go of their plain-jane Sebbies.

Will Chris figure out a way where he won't need the notch in the blade? Will he figure out a way to change the screws to be able to take down with just one tool like before? Will he add the lanyard back?

Just some of the questions that have come up for me.

Nice points. I am not sure why the same size pivot wouldn't with fitting it along with the same size allen head needed for the other bolts. Could it be done? Would it look too funky or would the smaller allen hole strip too easily because of the bigger bolt it is connected to? I actually like the notch in the blade but I can see the extra notch in the handle not catering to everyone's hand size nor grip technique.

I like the looks of my 21 more.

Too bad you can't just swap out blade shapes, cause that is really the only thing I would change....

Amen to that! :)

The beauty of the sebenza, to me, is in the simplicity of the design and the craftsmanship. The new design
trays a bit from the simplicity.

This all the way to the bank.)

Love the swedge too. Here's hoping the swedge will make its way onto the new 25 or the Ti-lock.
