Are you gifting a knife for Christmas?

I'm thinking about getting my dad a knife to replace the cheap-ass SanRenMu I gave him years ago. While I've chosen the category of gift, my knowledge of knives and intended uses has expanded immensely... As has my budget and the number of interesting knives that are out there. It's dizzying!

There's a lot to consider; Carry preferences, size, weight, intended use, aesthetics... I'd almost rather ask him what he would like, but that takes all the fun out of choosing a gift for someone!

So, are you in the process of choosing a sharp shiny thing for someone you know? What did you choose and why?

I bought a couple of new Blurs for coworkers, it was on a Black Friday special. It is made in the USA. Nice edc.

One for my wife, one for my new son-in-law, and another as a thank you/Christmas gift to a co-worker.

All from makers here on the forums.

Comeuppance, I'm in the same "considering" boat as you and was thinking BM mini grip. Inconspicuous when carried and used and high enough quality to please the average non-knife person.

I'm gifting a bunch of SAK classics, individualized pattern to match people's personalities. Affordable quality keychain knife, I know mine comes in handy all the time, and provided folks actually put em on their keychains and carry them, they'll have a reason to think of me whenever they use it.

I don't know anybody who appreciates knives enough to understand the value of the gift, so no.

Spyderco Civilian to a patrol cop I know that doesn't have a decent folding knife...
Merry Christmas to all you folks...

Or the average knife person.:)

I bought my dad a Kershaw thermite. He wanted a switchblade, but I figured this would probably be less likely to get him into trouble carrying it in the wrong place than a true automatic. I ordered my girlfriend a translucent purple Victorinox classic. I didn't plan on it originally. But as soon as I opened my email and saw it on sale for less than retail.......it happened.

I am giving my mother in law a very nice Case Russlock I received in a trade. Her boyfriend will also get a good "user" US made Gerber Gator I picked up at a flea market. I just gave my sister in law's fiance an Opinel #10 that I modified. I am still looking for a few gift knives for a family friend and possibly my much younger brothers and sister. I have really been interested in knives this past year and would like to spread that interest to everyone else around me who would enjoy it!

A Spyderco Dragonfly2 salt because he just turned fifteen and now resides on the coast in Flordia.

I've been handing out case peanuts to a couple buddies lately who have been naysaying the traditional blade. They're pretty neat cheap blades that get the job done. I will be getting my sis the small utx OTF for Christmas. She likes smaller knives and I thought she'd like the action of the OTF.

A pair of trainer balisongs to my 14 year old stepson, live blade balisongs to the three older boys, and a Camillus electricians knife to the wife to use for work.

Nope, only knife collector friend I had moved to Virginia awhile back. And even if he was still here, he wasn't hard up for money, and tended to buy what he liked as it was.
