Are you ready for Snark week?!!!

I like the first few episodes of the original better. While I know this one is supposed to explain in detail how stuff happens... it just seems a little... slow.

They sure take their time but it's s new series and they need time to introduce the characters and set the scene. It will pick up

Within 30 miles of me... I have 3-5 grocery distribution warehouses (one of which I work in) and about 15 (or more) grocery stores :D and I'm in a suburb.

I eventually want to live out in the middle of nowhere with land... maybe a lake or two...

Was surfing the web a while back and looking at rope. Ran across a deal on Amazon that seemed too good to be true. 183m (600') of Sterling SafetyPro 9mm low stretch nylon kernmantle for $15. It was an Amazon Prime-members-only deal, and so I thought maybe, just maybe, it might be a remnant of all those crazy Prime deals that went down this past year. It was only the black and only the 183m length. My wife texted her Prime friend and got her to order it. We PayPal'ed the friend the cash, and I promptly forgot about it. I just figured the order would be cancelled at some point. No worries. A $15 shot in the dark, right? About a month later though, a big ass box of rope showed up on my doorstep. Sure enough, 600' on a spool. We're talking over $430 worth of rope. Today, I finally stretched it all out, measured, and cut it into 100', 200', and 300' lengths. I got both the rope bags in the pic on sale for good prices, but together they cost over 4x more than I paid for the rope!

City folks. If there was a grocery store within 30 miles of here everyone around would call it the 'local' grocery store. ;)
This is a distributor not a grocery store. As for grocery stores I have probably 7 within 10 miles. That doesn't count the corner markets or mom and pop stores.

I want to live out somewhere like that too, but with a couple of acres so I can also have some pigs and cows and chickens. The lakes would be stocked as well.

I watched it on demand and I was not impressed. I dunno, I expected a bit more, and you are dead on TBL....its slow.

Had a bit of fun yesterday - that was also a bit of work...
Turned this:

stump is still there :D

remember that pile of wood i had? i doubled it with the new oak tree, and then split nearly all that oak tree, and most of the rest.

two growing holz's :D

A "widow maker" is a loose or nearly loose limb that falls and kills someone working under the tree. That happened to my great-uncle William, one of my grandfather's brothers. He was killed at age 14 when just such a "widow maker" fell and hit him in the head.

there's a bounty of terms for how trees can kill you

i love "barber chair"

but not as much as splits you limb from limb (when the tree shoots sideways suddenly and up your butt place)

though, the tree root death tree is a winner too

clearly you don't share deals with buds ;)

i know the score now.

With our current exchange rate at Canadian store prices... yeah :( but I don't mind paying for quality :D

well, i'll remind you to never complain about Beckers again :D

so, for lols, i went and looked at my "old" brand new in bag dyno rope - 10mm 50M+ maxum brand. yup. still new.

was required to buy it for a climbing course, they canceled, and of course, i could not return the rope.

shortly after, i got mono, wrecked my knees long enough, that i didn't go back to climbing.

maybe i can use it for arborist work? :D

in the mean time, blue steel rope is what i love. need to get more of that, as well as 6 ton slings, for dragging.

also anti-shock blankets (rugs)

you cats should check out "CAT tourniquets". nice.

i'm going to keep one with the chain saw kit.

I think tomorrow I might go north and check out Gilmen, Colorado. It was a mining town abandoned in the 80's. Then I'll circle down to Aspen and go see Ashcroft.

So you've seen my bees.... My wife does the chickens...

A little supervised free range.

Delbert the Delaware Cock (or Rooster) keeping an eye on the girlies.

A better view of Delbert.

So, I just read yesterday that the Delaware breed is considered "threatened" by The Livestock Conservancy (who knew there was such a thing?). We had gotten 2 each of 7 breeds (6 of which are so-called "heritage"), all of which were supposed to be pullets. But the chicken-sexers (yes, we had this conversation in the last snark thread or the one before) are only about 90-95% accurate. As it is we wound up with one rooster out of the 14. One Americauna ("Easter Egger") died the first day, so we picked up 3 more Americauna pullets so we'd be sure to have the green/blue eggs. Since we have the Delaware rooster and a Delaware hen, we may try to start raising them as a breed in the next couple years.

Ah.... Just got home. Time to crack a beer and catch up on Snark.

I really need to repro file my brute, I haven't really used it since I bought it
Don't bother... Send it to me. I'll even throw in a well used GGG LW assault pack for your trouble (but you're not getting the S Biner).

Yes.....and it's also too damn much work. I get crispy fries every time and I have NEVER tested potatoes first. But.....I guess some people gotta go nutz. Fry them twice, and for the love of everything sacred, buy ORGANIC potatoes. Slice with the skin on, rinse and dry, fry once at 350°, then again at 375°. Had absolutely ZERO complaints and nearly all compliments from the dozens of people I've served them to.
Yea.... No doubt! I'd eat those and not bitch about it.
