How many of you guys will put your own edge on a knife straight out of the box?

Very nearly always. That's how I got started on this whole knifemaking nightmare to begin with. So let that be a warning to you...

:D when the kids are older and I have some time. Currently I can just get away with sharpening ;)

This S35vn is giving my stones a run for their money heh

Hope she gets to feeling better soon bro!

Thanks man. She had a horrible sinus headache all day yesterday. She tried everything, from the netty pot, hot shower, Benadryl, ibuprofen, tylenol, nothing worked. She had to work yesterday as well. She said she feels much better today though. Good thing, she volunteered to help her friend for a walk-a-thon for MS.

Sounds weird, but try hot foods like chili powder or Chinese hot mustard. Peppery stuff that gets into the sinuses and makes your eyes water and nose run. Keep a lemon or lime handy too cools the mouth, it will dilute the oils.

This, I've always found that Wasabi works extremely well

Yes! Thanks Spike...that slipped my mind. Wasabi would be the best #1 first thing to try. It doesn't linger like the peppery stuff and it really gets in the well.

Like father, like son. Son did a 13 mile hike yesterday somewhere in Colorado:

I'm debating re-profiln'n my 5102. There is a 1cm spot from the tip down where the grind is like 90 degrees inclusive. Yes, it may add to the tip strength but its slightly annoying for some EDC tasks.

Hell, I took my Brute from 110° to ~75° outta the box. Gotta set 'em up the way you like them and what works for you, new or used.

I did just get the baby down for a nap... I got an hour to kill... looks like I know what I'm doing!

I'm not sure who told you that, but It doesn't seem that accurate self assessment has ever been one of your strong points ;).

Hah touché

seems one side required a solid hour + on the stone to get it true. The other side only took me about 30 min it was good except for that spot at the tip. It now shaves and push cuts newsprint with ease. I haven't even taken it to my fine stone or strop.

Strung up the hammock in the backyard last night. Slept pretty good except for the occasional and unidentified crashing terror crunching leaves around me. Probably a rabbit.:D

It was supposed to get in the mid 40's last night so I put a windshield reflector between layers to save heat. Should have got a bigger one, as it wasn't quite wide enough.

Also, I need to find a better sleeping bag than my Walmart special. Some research is in order.

i've been hearing some crashing sounds too...

turns out that a large ground hog was living in the brush pile i had laying about...

it didn't dig a hole though. good.

but i scared the HELL out of it with the chainsaw ;)

hopefully it won't come back.

also, i made many woods, nearly everything is cut up or stage. cords and cords.

My wife puts ground cayenne on almost everything she eats, at every meal, sick or not, haha. She loves that stuff.

Depends on how happy I am with the edge. Sometimes I do it right away, sometimes I use it first. I prefer to use it first so I can get an idea of what angle I am going to want the edge at. However that isn't always an option. With the Spartan blade the tip was SUPER pointy but the rest of the blade was rather obtuse, so I been working on getting it to a usable edge (for me) since I don't use my knives as weapons I don't need a stabby point without an edge behind it to cut with.

or a date with kaylee
I'd love this! Jewel Staite would be my top pick, followed closely by Summer Glau, and Morena Baccarin and then bringing up the rear would be Gina Torres.

I love my KME for that, drop in the Beast diamond stone (50 grit) followed by the 100, 150, 300, 600, and then 1500 diamonds and you will have a BEAUTIFUL reprofile in mere moments!

If you mean photographic ability, then DEFINITELY! Beautiful area for a hike!
