Are you serious Buck?

My 110 isn't great, but it definitely isn't that bad.

I also own a Mackinac Hunter, and speaking objectively from a performance perspective, it is a far better knife in every respect. I like both, used both, carried both, and that's my opinion.

I walked into Walmart many years ago and asked the staff to put 6-8 ? on the counter for me. I went through them all and I took the one with the nicest fit\finnish, that snaped with authority upon opening.

I try to avoid the newer bucks, unless theyre US customs, which seem to be the only ones that are even close to the quality of the old ones... you can get a great one from the 80s-90s for pretty cheap and it'll be 10x better than the new ones... if you still want a good 110, thats what i'd do. Its really sad to hear about this though, Buck has always been (IMO) a great company, but i think everybody can agree lately theyve taken a massive dip in quality... Same thing with Schrade, and many other once great knife companies.

If by "lately" you mean more than a decade.

It's a $30 knife give or take.

No, they aren't what they used to be back in the 70's and 80's, but $30 back then was worth a lot more than it is today so take that for what it's worth.

The price hasn't changed much in all those years so they had to find some ways to keep it in the same range.

A sad comment, but so very true. Nothing is "the way it used to be" and it never will be again.

"Nothing is "the way it used to be" and it never will be again." Thank God that's true, or we'd be using flint knives we'd have to make ourselves :)

I have 5 110'. 4 of them are nice and tight. That last one was pretty poorly done. All of that said, I'm of the opinion that the 110 is a hunting knife. Use it to dress a deer and skin it, and it would give years of good service.

I own 5 Buck 110 knives also. My basic Buck 110 made in Idaho was $34.97 (from ChinaMart) ones look nicer than the ones posted at the spine. There is a tiny slight wiggle, but irrelevant to me.

just update, i have another brand new 110 knife!... lol i know.. and the join between the spring and blade is the best so far! id post a pic' but i have laptop atm and im using my ps3.. lol. the knife is finished better also, real smooth handle etc. i wont use this knife though. it will either be a shiny drawer gal or a tradable.. im not sure yet. love the looks, always will, but ill wait for a new pivot/bolster pin design untill i buy a 110 to keep. might get one of their conoe models though.. or a rough rider version. any got either/both?

The two Bucks I own are both under $60. One is a Vantage Select and the other is a 501, and I like them both. I had a slight problem with the blade on the 501 hanging a bit after a few years, but I sent it in and it came back with a new spring, polished up, and razor sharp.

I'll never own another Buck. First knife ever was a terrible 110. Broke a 119, had a Buck/Strider folder and still have a Vantage FP with cheesy thin stop pins and liners that make the knife overly fragile and wear out fast. No more for me.

That's too bad the knives didn't hold up for you. I would have sent them to Buck for repairs. Their customer service is great imo.
O well, whatever floats your boat.:D

I got it in a last minute trade so it didn't cost me anything.. :D

I'll also report very little blade play otb, just a minor horizontal bit.

I know a guy who does fancy filework who might be interested and I think Buck deserve a little break from me for a while! Lol

My 110 has held up pretty well considering it was my beater knife for awhile, it has some play but not enough to bother me. The f&f is ok on the 110 but my buck vantage pro is another story, buck makes good knives with good materiels (for the pricepoint) but the f&f is lacking, sometimes severely which is surprising and dissappointing but thats just the way it is, unfortunately it causes me to not buy bucks very often.

I bought two of those old USA made Schrade LB-7's off eBay, for gifts and they seem very solid. I know someone that used to use one a good deal, so I will keep one gift the other and see if it holds up better than my Wal-Mart 110.

Is it that same size as the Buck 110? It looks like a close copy.

Yes they are a copy of the Buck, the newer ones are made in China today by Taylor cutlery. Interestingly enough they sell for about the same as they did when made in the U.S., years ago.

A friend recently gave me my first 110. After all the negative comments I was apprehensive. In actual fact, it was shaving sharp out of the box with solid lock up and no play. Fit and finish is good. I am delighted. It was made in October this year I think. Let's hope quality control is sorted.
