One of the reasons for the disparity in price between brand new and on the classifieds for the BM you mentioned is Benchmade's MAAP pricing. While dealers have to sell for the MAAP price, the secondary market isn't tied to those restrictions so buyers won't pay that even if the knife is in new condition.

I'm very familiar with MAP but one would think that high quality knives that are that expensive should hold up better value wise than they are.

Significantly less. Street prices went up and I am just not willing to spend $200+ for a knife, which I might like.

So far I think I am spending less. It would be interesting to pose this questions at different times of the year.

-In January, recovering from the holidays, and reflecting on what we spent the last year, so I would assume most would say less at that point.

-Mid year, we assume we are keeping the resolution to spend less, but have not added up the totals yet

-End of year, shock set in when you figure how much you spent, even though we had the intention to spend less, we ended up spending more.... and the cycle continues

Excluding kitchen knives, I have not purchased any knives this year. At the same time last year, I think I had purchased a few inexpensive knives. So less this year than last.

Less.

All these years enjoying this hobby, and all the amazing knives I've had a chance to use has really given me a wonderful perspective on exactly what I like in a knife.

So, now that I've figured that out, I am staying within that framework....

This is my story as well. That... and I'm retired now. Less in = less out on non-necessities.

Canadian dollar is weak so prices have really gone up. I don't care really, this is water metal detecting season now. I could give away 2/3 of my cutting tools and still have way more than enough for a lifetimes use. Most are just toys really. If all I had was my ESEE 4 and 6, a hatchet and axe, a couple of Leatherman's or SAKs, I'd be set till the end of my days. Most days I wander around with just a Vic Pioneer in my watch pocket anyway, and life seems to go along just fine.

I've purchased about 6 new and 2 used knives so far this year. The only additional planned purchases will be for the 2016 Forum knife and a GEC #72.

I don't like MAP pricing, even though I buy nearly all of my knives over the Exchange. I like competition in pricing. Over the last few yrs, I have learned to become more selective and am buying fewer knives.

More, because since the Aussie import restrictions were relaxed I have a lot of catching up to do!
In all honesty though, if I compare to my pre-restriction days I am purchasing far less and higher quality knives and bypassing the low end of the market.

I've bought about the same as I have in the past few years, which is to say not a lot, and they were all budget-friendly knives of good build quality. But I've always been about value and base my purchases on filling gaps in my functional range.

Maybe a little less. That should change a bit now that the new Condor stuff is hitting the shelves though. There's still some Cold Steel stuff I'm waiting on, and Kershaw as well.

I wish this subject hadn't been brought up. I just thought about it & so far this year I've bought another ZT, two more Spydercos, two more Benchmades, two SAKs, and a Sebenza 25. And I probably ain't done yet! I see a small CRK in the near future.

Less, but only because I've reached the point where I realized I don't carry most, and have a lot of duplication within my collection as far as purpose goes. Realistically, my SAK compact paired with a Delica or Dragonfly suits 99.9% of my needs. The rest are fairly superfluous.

Much less this year, probably because I just got married amd can't really justify spending money on knives I don't need and won't use. Actually started to downsize my fixes blades and will be taking a look at my folders next.

Poll question.... can't say? So far this year I have spent less money than in 2015. My knife purchases tend to come in spurts and the dollar amount will vary with what catches my eye. June is usually a big month assuming I attend the Blade Show.

I'm spending more, but less per item, and then keeping more of them. I've refined my searching process and have also greatly narrowed my focus to the point where I primarily am buying fixed blades and slipjoints. I have no less than a dozen fixed blades now that I carry on rotation and a handful of slippies to keep them company.
