Me and "my attractive wife" finally made it out to San Diego in October for the 2009 Art Knife Invitational. Steven Garsson's encouragement and the offer of a free meal at his and Karen's place cinched it for us.

They have a pool!

But you can't go in the water...

Things were pretty relaxed during the three hour looking period. That's Michael Walker explaining with John W. Smith next door...

Harvey Dean's table...

The excitement starts when the bell rings and the drawings begin. S. R. Jonson does his duty...

After that's all over, it's time to start talking knives. Steven Garsson, Rick Eaton, Harvey Dean...

Plenty of time for socializing...

Suddenly people start breaking out the stuff they brought to show, sell or trade...

And it's amazing stuff - very high end...

Ed Wormser and others wheelin' and dealin'...

Tim Hancock set out these three amazing opportunities from a private collection. Can't read the prices? Just as well...

The Invitational banquet was held Saturday night and Shelly Berman absolutely roasted Phil Lobred, AKI producer. Then he berated a couple of 'underage' folks in the audience whose presence was cramping his style. But he told the masturbation joke anyway. It was a hoot...

Larry Fuegen was the 'people's choice' recipient of the Buster Warenski award for the best table in the show...

The banquet breaks up but Steve Schwarzer (standing) can't resist telling one more outrageous tale...

Couldn't go all the way to San Diego and not put a toe in the Pacific. La Jolla is just up the road. That's her in black - my Dulcinea...

Buddy, thanks for the photos...do you have any more of the tables? I would love to see what Larry's table looked like.

Gosh... whose table is this ?

Thanks a lot for this report.

Patrick, I wasn't there, unfortunately, but it looks like (the collector) Walter Hoffman's table. I recognize that Schneider dagger with the gold fittings.

^^ Patrick: That's stash from a collector, not on a table.

Excellent review, Buddy. I am SOOOO envious of your weekend (Not that spending 10 hours in torrential rain on Sat was less than your fun.... ;)).

Didja capture anything sharp? Anything? :)

For some reason, I just think it's great that Mr. Garsson has Mother-in-Law Tongue, aka Sansevierta trifasciata, growing on his patio. Course, it does look like an awesome show too!

Buddy, I can't believe we didn't bump into each other at the show, would loved to have met you.

I know it ain't knife related, but this is seriously cool.

Thanks for delivering a nice snapshot into this watershed annual event:thumbup:

Buddy,

Was a great show, wasn't it? Always a lot of fun, and the knives are incredible....each year of the AKI is like Christmas in October.

Thanks for the photos, there are never enough of them to capture the feel of the show, and Karen really likes the images of the pool.....I, of course, could do without the candid of me and Mssrs. Eaton and Dean....Rick and I are too ugly, lol.:D

Did not get drawn for anything this year, and the only money I spent was on a glass of single malt after the show, before dinner....practically a bargain.:)

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

I think Rick cleaned up nicely this time around:D;)

For some reason I can't get the name of that fish pop up in my head...yeah I know it's old age...... STeven, what's it called again?
