Art Nouveau Dagger

You are too kind Paul (lonepine). I would love to do a sheath but time will probably not permit and when I finally make a a knife/hard sheath (scabbard?), both will be have to be planned at the same time. I'd love to work with sterling silver. I will HAVE to try and sell knives if I want to use micer materials like that. :(

Sam (count), I see what you mean, thanks for pointing it out. You had to post a seagull didn't you? I thought Greg would be the first one to do it. ;)

Yes Phil, this is a take down. About the wings, facing down and also 2 of them was the logical thing to do. Hence one wing facing up. ;)

Let's see those plate quinn.

Thanks again for your words and support guys.

Patrice,

One critical comment (sorry). In one of your more recent pics it shows a large and slightly irregular gap between what I'd call the guard/bolster and the ricasso, as shown in this cropped view. Since it is a take-down, you have the opportunity to address that, if you think it's worth addressing.

Greg, there are many imperfections like that on the dagger. I am just ready to move to the next project.

No take down photo yet Phil. I'll see about getting one the next time the sun cooperates.

Pat don't sell yourself short on this one. While it is not my cup of tea I can't help but like it and I have to appreciate the amount of work that has gone into it. Personally, I would like too see it with a wing to the other side also and more balanced classic dagger shape to the blade. So I guess the means I like symmetrical pieces! :D

I think all knives are a balancing act. I often see folks getting bashed over a piece, and while some knives are more art or fantasy pieces and if even if it's not something I would do. If you can't appreciate the hard work it takes to make such a piece then you don't really know anything about making knives. After all I like the 1700 - 1800's type pieces used in America. Alot of folks detest them because some of them were more plain jane type knives. The knife has been around along time and often when we think we have a new style, it has been done by somebody. However its the individuality of each one of them that makes them different. OK I will shut up now as I feel I am beginning to ramble!

In summation I like it and while we can all point out short comings on a piece whether we made it or someone else made it, sometimes you just have to appreciate what you are looking at.

Patrice... Send it to me I will take some take down photos for you ;)

Pat like I said don't sweat it. We are all still practicing on our fitting skills! My OCD sometimes helps that and sometimes it pushes me too far! I end up crapping the piece and starting over!:D

Patrice,
You did a great job. It is not a knife that would have ever popped into my mind from a design standpoint... and I admit to having concerns when I first saw your early photos... but you pulled it off. I like that you did some exploration for inspiration.
